Why is Sustainability Important?
“Not only is environmental and social sustainability the right way to do business, it is an increasingly significant driver of business success. By leveraging UConn’s research and teaching expertise, we hope to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and connections to take advantage of new opportunities.’’
-Stephen Park, Associate Professor of Business Law
"Our job is to help students differentiate what good looks like in a world where there's a lot of messaging, a lot of marketing and a lot of communication on this subject, but not all of it represents genuine efforts, for example, on human rights."
-Rachel Chambers, Assistant Professor of Business Law

Attend Sustainable Clean Energy Summit |
This summit will take place at UConn, Storrs and will bring together academic, utility, industry, municipal and legislative experts to discuss the shifting energy landscape and will feature final presentations from six student-led research teams as part of the Eversource-sponsored Clean Energy and Sustainability Innovation Program (CESIP). As part of this program, students are researching possible solutions (technical, social, and political) to address different aspects of the grand challenge of decarbonization at the local (UConn campuses), state and regional (New England) levels.
These student teams will be presenting their work at the summit. Based off their presentations and the future potential of their work, winning team(s) will be selected for funding.
The summit will be featuring two panel sessions with leaders from industry, government (state and national), and community organizations. The summit will open with a keynote speaker and include two panels: one on the decarbonization of the grid and the second on the technologies of geothermal and hydrogen. The summit will close with a networking event to provide an opportunity for the many stakeholders in attendance who are necessary for the clean energy transition to come into conversation with each other and with the UConn student body.

The Haunted HEEP is an annual Halloween trail walk established in 2020. During this spooky experience, groups of students plunge into the shadows, daring to explore the creepy scenes set up along the Red Trail of the Hillside Environmental Education Park (HEEP). The HEEP is closely tied to UConn’s sustainability history – it contains a remediated landfill and provides miles of trails for the community to enjoy the physical and mental health benefits of nature.
The OS looks for student volunteers each year to help scare participants. Many clubs and organizations on campus, as well as individual volunteers, contribute to the success of the event.

Peruse Global Business School Network (GBSN)
The UConn School of Business recently joined the Global Business School Network (GBSN). The GBSN enables business schools to profoundly impact sustainable development worldwide--through education, research, and community engagement. This is a remarkable membership for the School of Business with many ways for students and faculty to engage and benefit from the network's international resources.
Students are welcomed to create their own accounts. Once you do, you will have access to many opportunities including the Virtual Career platform where you can search for internships, jobs, and professional development opportunities.

As members of the Global Business School Network, UConn School of Business students can enter and compete in this global opportunity. Students (both graduate and undergraduate) are challenged to identify and solve a Social Logistics issue. Social Logistics is a unique opportunity to interact with other disciplines and utilize one another’s expertise to create business solutions with a focus on social responsibility and awareness. You can sign up with our Global Business Programs office as an individual or as a team. We will organize teams for all (the goal is to have mixed teams of undergrad and grad students) and provide support throughout the process. Register early to have more time to work on your case!
