Godly Play Resumes

for the Program Year

We are happy to announce our Godly Play class will resume this Sunday, September 17! Yea!!

All 3 years-old and older are welcome to join us.

Our classroom is on the second floor of the education building.

Our doors open at 9:45 am each 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th Sundays of the month.

We experience a Godly Play story, feast, work time, and fellowship in this holy space, then we enter the church service and rejoin our families at about 10:40.

If you have any questions, please contact Nancy Crandall.

The Gathering of the Peace

One of the visible signs of the delight of gathering together at Trinity Church is at the Exchange of the Peace. Many parishioners have remarked that it’s one of their favorite times of the service, and who can disagree? It’s wonderful to make friends and newcomers feel welcome!

In order to ensure that there is enough time at the end of the service for coffee hour fellowship, beginning Sunday, September 17, when you hear the music “I’ve got peace like a river”, please move back to your seats in order for the service to continue. The fellowship will continue to flow through the service and out into Coffee Hour.

Thanks you’s!

There was a lot of activity here on Saturday, September 9th when half of the Trinity College men’s hockey team came to Trinity to participate in Trinity College’s annual “Do It! Day”. This annual community service event has provided Trinity Church with a number of volunteers ready to tackle some difficult tasks. The dumpster was filled, the basements have been decluttered and outside yard work took place.

Thanks also to Percy Williamson and Boo Morton who determined the basement discards. Percy came on Saturday to oversee basement operations and Peter Green was on hand supervising outdoor grounds work.

The Memorial Garden fountain is working again. A heartfelt “thank you” goes to Peter Green. Peter has been working on this project all summer. Not only did he put in numerous hours of sweat equity, he also very generously underwrote the expenses of the materials. Thank you, Peter!!

Vestry Meeting

The Vestry will meet on

Tuesday, September 19th at 7 pm in the library.

Vestry meetings are open to any member of the parish. Members of the parish are especially invited to bring concerns and feedback to the Vestry during the “Feedback from Congregation” section of the meeting which begins at about 7:20/7:30. (The first 15-20 minutes of the meeting are a time of reflection and connection).

Members who choose to do so are welcome to come only to the beginning of the meeting to share concerns or are welcome to stay for the entire meeting. Please note that if there are conversations that are confidential in nature, visitors to the meeting will be asked to excuse themselves for that portion and then will be invited back in.

Women Together is a group that gathers weekly to explore our Christian faith and practice through book discussion, prayer and fellowship. We meet on Tuesdays from 2:00 to 3:15 pm in the reception room at St. John’s (679 Farmington Avenue, West Hartford, CT).

On Tuesday September 19, 2023 we will begin discussing The Night is Long but Light Come in the Morning by Catherine Meeks. It presents Meditations for Racial Healing: “a refreshing approach to understanding the ministry of racial healing. Dr. Meeks invites us to contemplate the question ‘Who shall I be?’ in order to engage ‘Who shall we become?’”

We will start by reading the Forward and Part 1 (through page 34). Don’t worry if you haven’t received your book yet, just read what you can.

The books we choose are usually available at libraries, amazon.com and other booksellers.

WT has been attended by women from St. John’s, Trinity, St. James and St. Monica’s.

Please contact Linda MacGougan or Cathy Rowe if you would like additional information.

Save the Dates: Adult Christian Formation

Sept. 24        Your Faith and Your Money,

presented by The Rt. Rev. Drew Smith

This year’s Annual Appeal will ask us to envision Trinity Church as “A Tree Planted by the Water.” We will think about how trees grow, producing leaves and shade and fruit, and we will be asked to pledge our support so that this tree, Trinity Church, can continue to flourish and be fruitful.

Our giving is based on what we think the needs are – how much is required to support the programs and functions we value. But our giving is based also on our relationship to our money – how much we have and how much we can and want to give away.

The Rt. Rev. Drew Smith will lead a forum on the topic of how Christians relate to their financial treasures. He will talk about his own journey of faith with regard to money and possessions, and he will challenge us to consider our own priorities for giving.

Please plan to join us in the Library on September 24 following the 10 a.m. Eucharist as we kick off our 2024 Annual Appeal, “Like a Tree Planted by the Water.”

Oct. 8            The Spiritual Value of Photography,

presented by George Chien and ACF team.
