Welcome to Quilting News
February 2023
Message from Lisa
Hello a little early for February. We have lots going on around the studio, so please check the calendar as we have moved a few meetings around. Our Quilting Sisters' had to switch weekends and our meeting for Retreat in March is moved also.

We had a busy January and looking forward to everything we have planned for February and March. I have a few new opportunities that might interest you and a sew a long that you might want to participate in. So take your time in reading all my news and what is happening. Make sure you mark the new dates for upcoming meetings and retreat meeting on your calendars.

We have been busy promoting lots of moms to Grandma's and Great Grandma's. Congratulations to everyone. We have one more waiting for a new grandbaby in February. I wanted to share my prayers to Georgette on the passing of her husband in January. We are here for you as a sisterhood when you need us. And Please keep Jan H. in your prayers as she starts her treatments this week. I also heard that Jane E. is not feeling very well and needs a few prayers for her legs to stop aching. Merci needs prayers for her lungs to heal so she can breath a little easier. We await the return of Mary Ann F. from Califoni Let's reach out to our sisters and keep them in our prayers for healing and strength. I feel like our group of ladies does a great job checking in on everyone. So please let me know if you need anything.

My life is slowing just a little and I'm excited that I can ease my mind a little with family matters. We all go through times when we think our life is so stressful and we just can't take one more issue to deal with. But in reality we all have our issues and we each deal with them in different ways. But it sure is nice to know that we have a God that can help lead us in the right direction and give us strength when we need it the most. So Thank the Lord for all your help in the past and for the future directions you will take each of us.

Excited for all the new things happening at Shining Star! Trixie and I will see you very soon.

Lisa

Quilting Sister's
Do you like to sew for charity? Do you like to sew with friends? Come join our new group of quilter's who have a passion to make items and give back to the community. We will be using the conference room at the Firehouse, 1956 Urbine Road, Powhatan, VA 23139. We start at 9 AM and sew until 3 PM.

DATE CHANGE for February and March. We will meet the FIRST Saturday due to a conflict with schedule.

Our January meeting we presented the Co. 2 Fire Department with their quilt. We made guidelines and set up a few committees for our group. We want a little structure but not too much like a guild. Thanks to everyone who came and helped fill those important roles for our group. I want everyone to feel like they have a roll in making this group a successful one!

At our February meeting we will be sewing again but this time on the Habitat House quilts. So please be ready to start at 9 am. Bring your breakfast with you and a lunch if you need one. Please use white thread in your machine. It might be great to run a few extra bobbins before you come. Just in case. We will be divided into two groups. We are very excited to be a part of this adventure for a well deserved family. If you want to be apart of this group, our dues are $25.00 and need to be paid at the next meeting which is this Saturday! Until we see each other... Keep on Quilting my Sister's

Future Projects:
March - Cat Pads for Shelters
April - Firehouse Quilts
May - Firehouse Quilts
June - Service Quilts
Wooly Friends Group
Welcome to a very new and special group of ladies. Our next meeting is Tuesday, February 21st. Doors open at 9 AM. This group has room for more people. So if you have wanted to learn how to do wool projects or where to start, then you need to be at our next meeting.

At our January meeting we made the little Christmas Trees. We had a lot of fun making these. I see many more being made down the road. For our February Meeting we have 3 possible activities you can do or just bring your own to work on. First is our Wooly Pine bundle that Darlene will help with. Here is what you need to bring for this project:18 gauge floral wires, Wool Strips for pinecone color 1 1/2 x 54", wool strips (skinny) 3 at 1/4 inch x 54", Wool Strip green for branches 1 " x 54", and floral tape and 32" of bind wire. Any questions contact Darlene. Second is our Lavender Spray. You will need about 6 strips of Lavender or your choice color wool strips 2" x 3", and 6 green wool strips 2" x3" for leaves. EIGHT wrapped 18 gauge floral wires, some ribbon scraps. Lisa will be helping with this one. FOR BOTH YOU NEED GLUE AND SCISSORS AND A FEW CLIPS FOR STARTING YOUR WRAPPING. Third is the Trees from last month. You will need about 6 to 8, 5 1/2 x 10" green wools to cut for the tree. You will need glue and I have the bases for the trees. You can cut your greens with the die cutter here. So you have Choices for our February meeting.

In March we will be making a road trip to a wool shop for our monthly meeting. So we will update you in February. We have plenty of room for new people. Please join us if you think you would like to have a new hobby.

Future Projects:
February - Wooly Pine (Darlene Vincent) & Lilac Spray (Lisa Adams)
March - Road Trip
April - Up in the air....

Lisa now has a Sissix cutter and a few dyes. Just let her know if you want to use one during the meeting to cut something.

New Favorite Wool Site: Old Tattered Flag. I just love all her stuff and thanks for sharing this location with the group. We now have several of the dies.

This is a fun quilt to make. The date is Saturday, February 18th and the cost is $25.00. Class starts at 9 AM. If you would like to take this class your payment will hold your spot and I will send out the fabric requirements. It is a great project and not very hard, please sign up!
Teri Donnelly, Linda Thompson, Joy Yoshino, Linda Cross, Cindy Farinholt and Betsy Maier.
Barn Class for 2023
Our barn class will be a 16" x 16" board (with out the frame) this time. Total is $70 and includes everything from the design drawn and base coated and ready to start painting. This class will be March 25th on a Saturday from 9 to 4. Payment holds your spot. (For those who took the class last time, we will have a different set of designs to choose from for this class!) Looking forward to having Wendy here again!
"New" Weekly Sewing Group - Home of the Free!
This is going to be a fun group. This is about a 7 week class. I will cut you one block from my stash and you will make the remainder of the blocks needed for that row from your stash. By the end of the 7 weeks you will have a beautiful quilt made. You will pick up your packet by March 31st. We will start the first week of April and you can pull out the week and sew along. If you want to sign up for this fun project the cost is $40.00. On Monday, March 3rd, I will do a Live Video and post the video on my web site. I will do the weekly sew along and post the video's on my web site. I hope you will have fun with this one like I will. You can add borders to the outside and your quilt should finish about 52" x 70".
Quilters Daycare Group
Quilter's Daycare is a Thursday sew group. Please make sure that you slide over and make room for everyone that wants to sew. We have an additional room that can hold only 4 sewers. We want everyone to feel welcome. We have missed many of you. Your $5 covers your seat charge each Thursday. See you soon! Reminder the door opens at 9 am, not earlier. (I'm with mom getting her up and ready for her day)
Thank You!
A Big surprise for the new year! We have a new color for bags. Each customer will get a new bag for 2023. Guess the color?

Payment is accepted by Cash, Check, Venmo and/or Zelle.

See you soon! Trixie and Lisa
