The Griffin-Spalding Partners in Education (PIE) raised over $2o,000 during its 23rd annual golf tournament to benefit the teachers and students of the Griffin-Spalding County School System (GSCS). Twenty-seven teams played in the tournament held at the City Park Golf Course on Friday, November 1.

GSCS Executive Director of Communications and Partnerships Adam Pugh said, “This is a great fundraising event that I look forward to every year. 2024 GSCS REACH GEORGIA SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS
During a special signing day ceremony, four Griffin-Spalding County School System (GSCS) eighth-grade students were named recipients of a $10,000 REACH Georgia Scholarship. The scholarships were presented during a luncheon sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Griffin on Wednesday, October 23.
REACH (Realizing Educational Achievement Can Happen) Georgia's mission is to ensure that Georgia's low income, academically promising students have the academic, social, and financial support needed to graduate from high school, access college and achieve postsecondary success.
REACH Georgia scholars are selected in middle school and sign a contract along with their parent/guardian to maintain a 2.5 GPA, remain crime, drug and behavior issue free and meet with a volunteer mentor and academic coach until they graduate from high school. Each scholar who completes all program requirements will receive the $10,000 that was earmarked to him/her in the eighth grade. Each student will receive $2,500 per year, for up to four years to be used towards the cost of attending a two or four-year REACH Georgia program eligible institution of their choosing.

GHS FOOTBALL PLAYERS ARE WINNING EVERY DAY
The Griffin High School Bears Football Team has been in some close games but has not won a football contest on the scoreboard yet this season. However, a recent letter from a referee stated that these young men from GHS are "winning every day." Please take a moment to read the words of this football official and join us in being proud of the way our Griffin Bears are representing our school and our community.
The letter reads, "My name is James Brown and I currently serve as the President of the Columbus Football Association. I most recently served as your referee (white hat), in last night's football game against Northside of Columbus. Even though you did not come away from last night's game with a victory on the field, it appears that the student-athletes (young men) that you coach are winning every day.
