Dear IHSS Providers,

IHSS Career Pathways Training Ends on Sept. 30

IHSS providers who have completed trainings offered through this optional program are eligible to submit a training time claim and get paid for their time completing the courses. The program is ending and you should be aware of the important dates below:

  • Sept. 30, 2024: Last day classes will be offered.
  • Nov. 15, 2024: Last day for IHSS providers to submit training and incentive claims. Late claims will not be accepted for processing.

We hope IHSS providers who have participated in any of the variety of trainings offered statewide through this program have gained new skills or enhanced current ones. As a reminder, Training and incentive claims can be submitted online through the Electronic Services Portal.

Take Time to Replenish and Re-Energize Yourself!

IHSS providers, we care about you! Good self-care on a regular basis is important for you and for the people you care for. You know best what will help boost your mood, reduce stress and anxiety, and increase your energy. Whether it’s a phone call to a friend, buying yourself a treat, or taking a walk, we encourage and remind you to practice healthy routines to take care of yourself emotionally, mentally, physically, and spiritually. Prioritize protecting your health by reviewing these tips.

September is National Preparedness Month

Earthquakes, wildfires and other disasters often occur without warning. Having a plan and emergency supply kits handy will help provide peace of mind and allow you to better handle any emergency you’re faced with.

If you’re away from your family members when disaster strikes, it’s important to know how to reach each other and where to meet if you can’t get home. Visit ReadyVenturaCounty.org now to get started on your family’s emergency plan.

A basic emergency supply kit should include:

  • Water (one gallon per person per day for at least three days, for drinking and sanitation)
  • Food (at least a three-day supply of non-perishable food)
  • Battery-powered or hand crank radio and a NOAA Weather Radio with tone alert
  • Flashlight
  • First aid kit
  • Extra batteries
  • Whistle (to signal for help)
  • Dust mask (to help filter contaminated air)
  • Plastic sheeting and duct tape (to shelter in place)
  • Wet wipes, garbage bags and plastic ties (for personal hygiene)
  • Wrench or pliers (to turn off utilities)
  • Manual can opener (for food)
  • Local maps
  • Cell phone with chargers and a backup battery

View additional items you may wish to include in your kit. Consider keeping an extra supply kit in your car and at work in case you’re stranded.

And, make sure to sign up for VC Alert to receive local emergency alerts by phone, text and/or email.

More people are now eligible for Medi-Cal! Starting January 2024, assets no longer count toward Medi-Cal eligibility. Assets include your car, house, bank accounts, and more. Income will continue to be counted. Learn more at GetMedi-CalCoverage.dhcs.ca.gov.

Medi-Cal helps you and your family stay healthy. Even if you've been denied for full Medi-Cal recently, see if you're eligible now. Immigration status does not matter. Applying will not affect your immigration status. Learn more at GetMedi-CalCoverage.dhcs.ca.gov.
