March 17th is St. Patrick's Day
|
Although St. Patrick's Day is officially March 17th, since 1962 the Scranton Saint Patrick's Parade traditionally steps off the weekend before the Feast of St. Patrick. This year, the nationally-acclaimed parade will step off on Saturday, March 11th.
The Scranton Saint Patrick's Parade is the largest annual celebration in Lackawanna County. “Parade Day,” as it’s known locally, is one of the largest St. Patrick’s parades in the country, regularly attracting 150,000 spectators. The parade boasts over 12,000 participants, including Irish groups and societies, bagpipers, high school and string bands, elaborate floats, Irish dancers, and much more!
The Brian P Kelly memorial 2-mile footrace starts at 11:00 a.m. The parade steps off at 11:45 a.m. Enjoy all the festivities of the parade and indulge in the local food and drinks. Stay the weekend, and be sure to book your hotel room in one of the downtown Scranton hotels so that you're close to the action.

For four generations, the Howles family has been creating quality maple products and using them in menu items at the Riverside Brewing Company, which they also own. Stop in and try a Maple Bacon Burger or a Maple Sundae, and then wash it all down with a Maple Porter. You'll find more than just syrup here, though. The Howles used old maple syrup buckets and turned them into the lighting for the restaurant and the bar is covered in maple leaves. The Maple Farm is located in Guys Mills and Riverside Brewing Company is just north in Cambridge Springs.
