Hello Thomas,
Greetings,
As all of the clean energy people have expressed concern about the future of energy in this country in the coming years, IRI joins the resistance movement and pledges to continue our reporting, research, and development of innovative energy solutions that do NOT use fossil fuels. In connection with that, we refer to the greatest motivator for doing so…climate change from global warming. I am just reading about the “Doomsday Glacier” in New Scientist which Antarctic scientists warn about its destiny to single-handedly raise global ocean height by about one meter when it goes into the sea soon. Also, my friend and colleague, Prof. Jerry Kroth now has released his fourth YouTube video on the subject called, “Climate Doomsday 6 Years From Now” which contains a lot of the convincing evidence that I have been touting for years in my journal articles and videos as well. Only Jerry gets right to the point, since no one in the world will be tolerant of the 4, 5, and 6 degrees C increases that we are irreversibly headed for, except perhaps the folks in Greenland who stand to gain a lot of green real estate. A recent https://www.climatechangeconferenceeurope.com/ in London just aired my Valone - Predictive Climate Discovery - 2020.mp4 video which received a commendation from the Coordinator: “I want to express my sincere appreciation for the clarity and depth of the content. Your effort in crafting such a well-structured and thought-provoking summary is truly commendable. The audience appreciated as well.”
Story #1 continues one of our favorite topics, Space Based Solar Power (SBSP) which the US Air Force Space Command is pursuing independent of NASA, as we featured at COFE12 (www.futurenergy.org ) with a slideshow and demonstration from the Commanding Officer, Col. Eric Felt. The presentation is available from IRI on a Double DVD, or on The KEY flash drive. Now a private company www.SpaceSolar.co.uk is doing its best to “deliver a revolutionary vision” of global energy security from their vision of SBSP.
Story #2 offers a great leap forward in creating sustainable nuclear power with NO waste, since it uses nuclear waste. To be located at the Idaho National Lab (INL), the USDOE approved www.Oklo.com construction of the Aurora Fuel Fabrication Facility. INL is the nation's center for nuclear energy research and development, celebrating 75 years of scientific innovations in 2024. The laboratory performs research in each of DOE’s strategic goal areas: energy, national security, science and the environment.
Story #3 also continues a previous topic, the prospect of replacing expensive Lithium-Ion batteries that are also dangerous with Sodium-Ion batteries. Now a startup has taken it to the next level with a 10 GWh production plant. The company is Zoolnasm Energy. There are already electric cars with sodium-ion batteries in production, and as supplier contracts like these increase, the technology is bound to become more popular among battery companies and automakers alike.
Story #4 has a question about what country are you in which you can delete to get to the real article. Researchers have discovered that hemp batteries can potentially last eight times longer than lithium-based batteries and outperform graphene at a fraction of the cost. Not only hemp but jute, bamboo, and kenaf are also good sources for the bio-based activated carbon which is a suitable precursor for hybrid supercapacitors, according to a ScienceDirect open manuscript from MaterialsToday . An earlier report from ACS Nano indicated that interconnected carbon nanosheets from hemp can produce ultrafast supercapacitors with high energy.
Story #5 fulfills the hope of some of the fossil fuel burning ocean vessels. The proposed ship Ponant's Swap2Zero would use a combination of wind, solar, liquid hydrogen, and bio-liquefied natural gas. It will use onboard carbon-capture technology to reduce its air pollution, as well as recover waste heat and cold. It also could run solely on wind power for 30 days. Ponant's Newbuilding and R&D Director, Mathieu Petiteau, said in a statement. "It is a realistic and profitable approach that achieves the highest level of decarbonization." The classification society Bureau Veritas has granted the Swap2Zero approval in principle as well. So it looks like cruise ships may become popular once again.
