Council Approves Subcommittee to Discuss Contract Renewal with Main Street Hanford
Council members voted unanimously to approve the formation of a subcommittee consisting of Council Members Kalish Morrow and Lou Martinez to work with Main Street Hanford's board and executive director on the renewal of an agreement between the City and the nonprofit organization. Over the last two decades, the City has drawn from the Central Parking and Improvement Fund to pay Main Street Hanford for its efforts to enhance and promote the Central Parking and Business Improvement District (BID). The last contract amount was approximately $81,000. The Central Parking and Improvement Fund, which consists of double business license taxes assessed on businesses located in the BID, currently has a balance of $165,620.
The formation of a council subcommittee focused on the Main Street Hanford contract renewal will help City staff determine the scope of services Main Street Hanford provides as part of a new agreement, in accordance with the specific uses allowed in the Central Parking and Improvement Fund.
Those uses include:
A. The acquisition, construction or maintenance of parking facilities for the benefit of the area;
B. The decoration of any public place in the area;
C. The promotion of public events which are to take place on or in public places in the area;
D. The furnishing of music in any public place in the area; and
E. The general promotion of retail trade activities in the area.
