What's Up With I/T?

The City of Lakeland’s Department of Information Technology is comprised of 10 divisions ranging from Cyber Security to Telecommunications with 84 full-time staff who provide support for City operations. Information technology is the use of any computers, hardware, software, storage, networks, and infrastructure to create, process, store, secure and exchange all forms of electronic data.

The Department of Information Technology provides I/T development and support for all City business functions including Electric and Water Utilities, Police, Fire, Public Works, Finance, Human Resources, Community Development, Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts, Internal Audit, Risk Management, Purchasing, Communications, Lakeland Linder International Airport and RP Funding Center.

In short, the City’s Information Technology Department deploys and maintains business applications, services and infrastructure (computer servers, networks & storage). The group troubleshoots the performance of applications and computers through the Department’s help desk, and oversees the security and governance of technology services.

It has been said that data is what powers industries worldwide. Just like businesses, local governments rely on the ability to collect data and turn it into useful information. The Department of Information Technology helps the City focus on a customer centric mind-set using innovative strategies to better serve the citizens of Lakeland.
