THURSDAY: Celebrate National TRIO Day!

On behalf of TRIO Programs

National TRIO Day began in 1986, declared by congressional resolution (H. Con. Res. 278) to celebrate the Federal TRIO program successes across the country. Since 1986, the fourth Saturday of February has remained the celebratory day of National TRIO Day. National TRIO Day is also a day of services and giving back to the community.

As part of our celebration, we will be collecting much needed items for Posada of Pueblo; we are collecting gloves, toothbrushes/toothpaste, loaves of bread, heavy coats, and heavy blankets. The collection box will be available all week for donations in LARC 357.

Please stop by and join the CSU Pueblo TRIO programs (EOC, SSS, ETS, UB, and VUB) to celebrate National TRIO Day on Thursday, February 23rd from 12:00-2:00 p.m. We will have food, drinks, and dessert!

Saturday: Indigenous Holistic Health & Healing Speaker Series

On behalf of the Dept of Psychology, CSU Pueblo

Leslie White Temple-Gipp, MSW, JD, is an enrolled member of the Standing Rock Lakota/Dakota Nation which straddles the North Dakota-South Dakota border. White Temple-Gipp is an Instructor of Social Work at Sitting Bull College, Fort Yates, ND. Professor White Temple-Gipp’s background in social work and law has enabled her to work in a variety of settings on behalf of Native people and communities.

This second presentation in the Indigenous Holistic Health and Healing Series will explore trauma through a historical, intergenerational, and contemporary lens. American Indians and Alaskan Natives have suffered on multiple levels from European colonization and the cumulative effects of long-term and sustained traumatic situations. Guided by Lakota/Dakota values, social justice, and hope, White Temple-Gipp will share insights into the nexus between historical trauma and the health and well-being of marginalized populations, not only underscoring challenges, but also offering possible interventions for healing.

TUESDAY: Spring 2023's Meet the Research: Socio-Ecological Paradoxes

On behalf of Sociology/Criminology Club

The Sociology and Criminology Club started the "Meet the Research" lecture series as a way to provide students, staff and the community with a way to learn about the work our professors are doing. This semester's lecture will be given by Dr. Michael Briscoe titled "Socio-Ecological Paradoxes: The Unexpected Consequences of Progress". In this lecture Dr. Briscoe discusses how using technologies to replace environmentally harmful things is good, right? Electric cars, e-readers, plant-based meat substitutes - these supposed environmental positives may have a paradoxical effect on resource consumption…

Beware! New Hacker Tactics with Phishing Emails

On behalf of Information Technology Service - Information Security

As we all become aware of data security threats as a regular part of our day, one thing to take note of more recently is that hackers are now trying to get you to open malicious file attachments. When you open these malicious file attachments, malware can automatically get installed on your computer and do terrible things like remote into your computer, capture your key stokes with Keyloggers, and even unleash a ransomware attack on our campus network.

To help protect our home and campus networks, please be careful to not open the following file types from unknown/untrusted senders: .RAR, .ZIP, and Windows Shortcut (.LNK) files, and never open a .ISO or .EXE file attachment.

Please remember to contact me with any questions or concerns, or if you need help identifying if an email or attachment is legitimate.

New: Would This Be a Fundamental Alteration? Practical Guidance For Working with Students and Faculty

On behalf of Disability Resource & Support Center and Title V HSI Grants

Although some accommodation requests are fairly routine to consider, other requests could fundamentally alter the course, program, or activity, and therefore may not be an appropriate accommodation to implement. How can we make that determination and feel sure about our decision? This workshop will guide practitioners through scenarios that frequently arise in this work, including requests for remote attendance, extra time on skills-based or lab exams, and flexible deadlines. The presenters will provide a framework for consulting with faculty, eliciting necessary information from students and establishing a sound process for evaluating the request and when necessary, determining if it constitutes a fundamental alteration.
