STUDY CALL FOR ACADEMIC ASSOCIATES - REMINDER
To all PIs and Study Coordinators:
Do you need help with your research study? Use the Academic Associate program!
The Pediatric Research Education Office is accepting new studies for the Academic Associate "blue coat" program for the Spring 2025 semester. The Academic Associate (AcA) Program provides undergraduate students the opportunity to learn about the fundamentals of clinical research and to conduct "real time" research through consenting patients and their families into studies in the PCH Emergency Room and other clinics at PCH and the U of U hospital.
Our mission is to provide this opportunity to students while supporting the research of the clinician scientists in our department. We are able to provide research support to PIs and Study Coordinators in the clinical setting as well as give opportunities for them to participate in didactic and mentoring sessions for the students. To utilize this program there is a charge of $650 per semester.
Additionally, students can earn credit for an independent study should your study need more limited or focused support from just one or two students.
More information can be found on our website. If you or someone you know is interested in utilizing the AcA program for clinical research, please reach out to Matti Koenig by December 20th.

Abbey Bentley, NP - Adolescent Medicine
"Abbey was very compassionate and knowledgeable. She was great with our grandson."
Spencer Black, MD - Behavioral Health
"Dr. Black is a wonderful doctor and we appreciate all he has done for my daughter."
Alexander Karmazin, MD - Endocrinology
"The doctor was so thorough and answered all of our questions. Just a cool dude!"
Jordan Koncinsky, MD - UDAC
"Saw Dr. Kocinsky [sic] about my daughter's speech and social delay and it turned out that she does have Autism. It was so overwhelming and I wasn't sure of how to handle it. The Dr. was very professional and explained things very clearly. I'm sure I spelled her name wrong (so sorry) but I would highly recommend her any day. We were very well taken care of. It's such a sensitive and emotional diagnosis to find out that your daughter has Autism but she handled it with care explaining to me what I have to do to help [my daughter] to cope with her symptom. Two thumbs up!"
Michael Miescier, MD - Emergency Medicine
"Dr. Miescier had an excellent bedside manner. He took the time to listen to me about my son’s history and took into consideration my concerns. It means so much to just have a doctor sit down and listen for a couple minutes."
Brian Shayota, MD / Care Team - Genetics
"Dr. Shayota and his team is the Best! So attentive to what we came in for. Answered all our questions and referred us for more help. Thank you for all you do!"
