NEW GRANT OPPORTUNITY: Addressing Community Violence & Promoting
Community Healing
Safety is essential for a healthy community. In recent years, we’ve seen an increase in people experiencing mental health challenges, as well as an uptick in community violence and associated trauma. Both disproportionately affect people of color.

As an organization committed to fostering an equitable and healthy Richmond region, we seek to promote community safety and healing, in addition to our ongoing investments in mental health and wellness initiatives. Our Trustees have decided to support individual nonprofit organizations or collective action through collaborations that address community violence through intervention, prevention, and/or healing initiatives.

Funded proposals will be awarded on a rolling basis. Applications received by 5:00pm on March 27, 2023 will be informed about funding decisions by May 31, 2023. Additional deadlines for the opportunity are forthcoming.

The ranges for the first round of funding are as follows:

  • $15,000 - $25,000 for individual organizations, and
  • $25,000 - $50,000 for a lead organization with collaborative partnerships

Goals for this funding opportunity include:

  1. Reducing violence and increasing communal healing efforts for under-resourced communities by addressing the factors in a community that increase the risk of violence, otherwise known as social determinants of health.
  2. Strengthening collaboration among community members, nonprofit organizations and governmental agencies to support collective action efforts in preventing violence and promoting healing in underserved communities.
  3. Supporting a broad spectrum of work to include a continuum of efforts from violence prevention and intervention programs to policy and advocacy actions.
  4. Strengthening the organizational infrastructure of organizations that improve behavioral health services, reduce/prevent community violence and foster community healing.

501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations are eligible to apply individually or as a lead organization of a collaboration. Collaborative partnerships can include, but are not limited to, nonprofit organizations, community members, community groups and/or governmental agencies.
