Jamie Gorby has been program director of Montcalm CASA for nearly seven years. Montcalm CASA is administered by EightCAP Inc., a private non-profit, local Community Action Agency. Its office is located in the Montcalm County Juvenile court building, so staff work closely with court staff and local DHHS professionals to ensure service for the children of Montcalm County.
Currently, Montcalm has 20 volunteers serving 27 children in 15 open cases. Jamie says of them, “Our CASA volunteers have become very close and bonded and very much enjoy spending time together as a group. Our jobs are hard but the people in our organization seem to come together to bring each other an incredible amount of joy and friendship.
“We truly believe we are making real and positive change in our community as we lift up, believe in, and support children who need us.”
She continues, “I am so proud to be a part of our CASA organization. I have witnessed so many volunteers connecting with children, empathizing, gaining trust, and truly listening to determine what can be done to help them heal and thrive. We have volunteers who show up at sporting events to cheer kids on, who tutor and instill confidence in kids academically, who advocate fiercely for needed services. Our volunteers don't back down from challenging situations and continuously embrace training opportunities to make them more effective advocates. The group of people I work with truly inspire me every day. I have so much respect for our volunteers, and I consider myself blessed to help support them in the powerful work they do.”
Jamie has been married for 25 years and is mother to two children aged 23 and 20. Jamie and her husband enjoy traveling, camping, biking, hiking, and fishing. Besides the well-being of Montcalm children, Jamie is passionate about photography, especially nature photography and runs a small side business in photography, which helps finance family travels.
