Plan to swap out studded tires by March 31

Make sure you swap out your studded tires by Friday, March 31.

Driving on studded tires out of season in Oregon can get expensive. Not only can they damage roads, but they can also get you a $165 fine.

State law only allows studded tires between Nov. 1 and March 31. Studded tires can create ruts in roads causing rain to collect. If the water freezes, the roads become slippery.

If it snows after April 1, drivers can still use chains, snow-approved all-season tires or other traction devices.
