Staff Spotlight: Jared Nelson

Meet Jared Nelson, marine electronics technician at Haven Harbour Marina and this week's staff spotlight. Jared, who will celebrate six years with us later this year, enjoys the solution-seeking process of problem solving, as well as putting into practice what he learns from a stubborn obstacle in his future work.

Jared is also a computer whiz, generously lending a hand as our in-house IT support whenever needed.

On the Radar: Boating public invited to April seminar at USNA

Gain knowledge, confidence and learn boating safety during MTAM's 2023 Safety-at-Sea seminars at the U.S. Naval Academy next month, April 1–2.

Part of the seminar is a requirement for racing sailors, and the course offerings expanded years ago to include beneficial safety lessons applicable to any mariner. The portion of the seminar intended for the general boating public is called a Cruising Course, and includes presentations by some of the foremost personnel in the field who have collectively operated vessels for thousands of miles on waters around the globe – as well as share lessons and real-life experiences on such topics as voyage preparation, crew health and emergency medicine, marine weather, safety gear, man-overboard prevention and recovery, electronic navigation and more.

On the second day of the seminar, attendees may choose either hands-on training with life-rafts, tethers and other safety tools in the pool on campus, or attend the Safety for Cruising Couples presentation made possible by the Cruising Club of America.

If you are winter storing with us this year, please submit your spring commissioning work order as soon as possible.

SHRINKWRAP RECYCLING

As part of a region-wide initiative, all vessels that have requested for their shrinkwrap to be removed by Haven Harbour Yacht Services will have a $15 recycling bag fee charged to their commissioning work order. DIYers will need to buy the $15 recycling bag from one of our marine stores in order to dispose of any removed shrinkwrap. Boats larger than 35 feet may require two bags.
