Joe Fulp ’21 Chosen for the 

2024 Philip Moore Award

Joe Fulp

Joe Fulp '21 is the 2024 Philip Moore Award honoree. Joe is pursuing a degree in Advertising with a minor in Business Administration. He has served as a Pledge Educator and Grand Master of Ceremonies for Tau Chapter. He's a Texas Cowboy, non-voting advisory board member for the UT Charter School System, UT College Scholar Honoree, and has made the Moody College Dean's List eight times. Joe is from Walnut Creek, CA.

Philip Moore was known for his outstanding leadership, service and loyalty to his Tau brothers. A legacy who pledged with the Tau Chapter in 1966, he died in a car accident at age 29. The Texas Kappa Sigma Educational Foundation honors his memory each year by presenting the Philip Moore award to an upper classman who shares the high qualities of leadership, service and brotherhood for which Philip Moore is remembered. 

Michael Schultze '22

Awarded Walt Schoenvogel Scholarship 

Michael Schultze

Michael Schultze '22 was chosen for the 2024 Walt Schoenvogel Scholarship. He is the newly elected Tau Chapter Grand Master and a previous Head of Rush. He is also a Texas Cowboy. Michael is majoring in Finance in the McCombs School of Business and is involved with several small financial organizations. He is from Dallas.

Walt Schoenvogel  passed away in 2017 at the age of 63. Those who live in his hometown of Brenham knew him as a successful businessman, community leader, and philanthropist, but he is remembered by his Kappa Sig brothers as an exceptional athlete whose prowess helped bring intramural glory to Tau Chapter, and a loyal friend whose great sense of humor brought much happiness to those around him. To honor his memory, the Walt Schoenvogel Scholarship has been established to benefit a deserving Tau Chapter active each year who aspires to meet the high standards and principles of brotherhood, community service and philanthropy by which Walt himself lived.

Will Gallagher '21 and Chris Aubin '22 Awarded Richard G. Miller Memorial Foundation Scholarships

Will Gallagher

Will Gallagher '21 was chosen for a scholarship by the Richard G. Miller Memorial Foundation. Will is a Finance major in the McCombs School of Business. He has served as a Grand Procurator and Social Chair for the Tau Chapter and is a Texas Silver Spur. Will is from Trophy Club, Texas.




Chris Aubin

Chris Aubin '22 is also a Richard G. Miller Memorial Foundation Scholarship winner. He is in the Canfield Business Honors and Finance program and has served the Tau Chapter as Assistant Treasurer for two terms. He is a Texas Silver Spur and involved with the Texas Investment Banking Association (IBA) on campus. Chris is from Albuquerque, NM.

Richard Miller recognized the development of leadership skills as the most important ingredient of success for any person or organization. Miller served as Tau Chapter Grand Master in 1939, was decorated for service in two wars, built a distinguished career as a businessman in his hometown of El Paso, Texas, served as Worthy Grand Master of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity at the national level and was honored as Tau Man of the Year in 1990. In 2006, the Richard G. Miller Memorial Foundation made a commitment to honor his memory each year through a scholarship to benefit outstanding leaders within the Tau Chapter.

Ryan Jinnette '21 and Billy Thackston '21 Honored for Outstanding Senior Leadership

Ryan Jinnette

Ryan Jinnette '21 is one of two seniors to earn special recognition by the Tau Trustee Committee for his outstanding leadership. Ryan is the past Tau Chapter Grand Master and has also served as Rush Chair and Treasurer. In 2023, Ryan was celebrated as a Philip Moore Award honoree and received a Richard G. Miller Memorial Foundation Scholarship. Ryan, a Texas Silver Spur, is pursuing a degree in Management Information Systems with a minor in Computer Science at the McCombs School of Business. He is expected to graduate in May 2025 and is originally from Houston.

Billy Thackston '21 was also awarded special recognition from the Tau Trustee Committee for his exceptional Tau Chapter leadership. Billy has served the Tau Chapter as Grand Treasurer, Grand Scribe, and Head of Rush. In 2023, he was awarded a Richard G. Miller Memorial Foundation Scholarship and was celebrated as a Philip Moore Award honoree. Billy is pursuing a Petroleum Engineering degree with a minor in Business. He is a Texas Cowboy and the founder and Chairman of the UT Chapter's Ducks Unlimited. A native of Manakin Sabot, VA, he is expected to graduate in May 2025.

John Kincade '78 Honored with Frank Erwin Award 


Tau Chapter actives selected John Kincade from the Pledge Class of '78 as the recipient of the 2024 Frank Erwin Award. This annual award recognizes an alumnus who has demonstrated exceptional support and leadership to the Chapter. 


"John Kincade was the obvious choice for the Frank Erwin Award," said past Tau Chapter Grand Master Ryan Jinnette '21. "He has gone above and beyond to do whatever is necessary to ensure our Executive Committee, Chapter, and brotherhood remain strong and successful. We hold John in the highest esteem and will be forever grateful to him for his guidance and support." 


John, a longtime Tau Trustee, joined the Board of Directors in February 2020 and was elected president in November 2024. As a UT Kappa Sig active, he served as Tau Chapter Grand Master, State Rush Co-Chair and was a Texas Cowboy. After graduating from UT, John attended St. Mary's University School of Law, where he graduated with honors.


"I'm surprised and honored to have received the Frank Erwin Award," John said. "Frank was a force of nature for Tau and The University. As a young undergrad, I was fortunate to enjoy a cocktail or two with Frank (laws have since changed) and sing The Eyes of Texas at his memorial service, which was filled to capacity at the former special event center named in his honor. I'm very proud of our active Chapter and all of the things these young men are accomplishing." 


John is an attorney and principal at Bressler, Emery & Ross, where he practices securities and commercial litigation, arbitration, and regulation. 


John and his wife, Leslie, have been married 36 years and live in Dallas. They have two sons, Sean and Lucas. Sean and his wife, Elissa, have a six-month-old daughter, Phoebe. 


John's family has a rich legacy with Kappa Sigma; his father was a Kappa Sig at Centenary College, and his son, Sean, was initiated Kappa Sig at the University of Arkansas. He is an uncle to Tau legacies Cameron Jones and Christopher Jones, and his cousin, Jeff Loper, was initiated as a Kappa Sig at LSU.

Frank Erwin, Chairman of the University of Texas System Board of Regents from 1966 to 1971, was a devoted Kappa Sig who served as an alumnus advisor and a founding trustee of the Texas Kappa Sigma Educational Foundation. He was honored as Tau Man of the Year in 1965 and again in 1980. 

Distinguished Alumnus Commander Mark McGinnis is Featured Speaker for Fall 2024


SEAL Legacy Foundation Managing Director Mark McGinnis spoke to the Tau Chapter on October 28. Commander McGinnis is a sought-after speaker on leadership and team building. He works with college and professional sports teams, Fortune 500, and Global 2,000 organizations on strategies to build and maintain winning cultures. 


As a Navy SEAL Commander in the U.S. Navy, Mark served 24 years in Special Operations, holding leadership positions at all levels of command and leading SEAL missions worldwide. Following his active duty service, Mark worked for a Fortune 500 medical devices company as a Regional Sales Director. He then founded the not-for-profit SEAL Legacy Foundation with a mission to provide support and educational assistance to families of wounded and fallen U.S. Navy SEALs. The Tau Chapter has participated in fundraising efforts to support this very worthy effort for more than a decade.
