Dear Families,
As you likely know by now, it is budget season in Seattle Public Schools (SPS) and our school is working to develop next year's budgets. SPS has cut staffing for schools across the district, and our school administrators and Building Leadership Team are working to identify the most equitable approaches where budget decisions are at play.
Through our TCPG Annual Appeal Process (October - December 2022), TC parents and community members contributed $112,000. These funds will be used to support our school in several ways. At a School Budget Meeting on 3/21 at 7:30 PM (virtual), we will ask you to weigh in on the use of some of these funds to fill staffing gaps identified by the Building Leadership Team that will have the most impact for students furthest from educational justice at our school.
The Thornton Creek Parent Group (TCPG) encourages all parents/caregivers to attend. The purposes of the School Budget Meeting are:
- For the Principal and Building Leadership Team to share information on next year's SPS-funded budget, explain changes to the current year's budget, and describe the request to TCPG for additional funding for school staffing.
- For the TCPG Finance Committee and TCPG Board to describe the process and recommendation to membership on possible TCPG funding to the school for the 2023-2024 school year.
- To take a preliminary TCPG budget advisory vote of members on funding school-certificated staffing for the 2023-2024 school year.*
*All parents/caregivers of Thornton Creek students enrolled in this 2022-2023 school year are automatically members of the Thornton Creek Parent Group and eligible to vote if attending the meeting.
