The opening session at UBCM’s housing summit, Housing BC Together, will feature Housing Minister Ravi Kahlon in discussion with local elected leaders from B.C.’s high-growth regions. Mayor Ken Sim (Vancouver), Mayor Brenda Locke (Surrey), Mayor Marianne Alto (Victoria), Mayor Mike Hurley (Burnaby), Mayor Malcolm Brodie (Richmond), Mayor Tom Dyas (Kelowna) and Councillor Jenna Stoner (Squamish) will join with Minister Kahlon to explore how local governments are innovating to accelerate the delivery of homes most needed in their communities and to identify the blocks that are limiting the pace of development.

UBCM is seeking expressions of interest from local government elected officials or staff to represent UBCM on the Minister of Social Development and Poverty Reduction’s Poverty Reduction Advisory Committee. Interested candidates can submit a resume, outlining relevant experience, to UBCM staff by March 24th.

This program assists local governments (municipalities and regional districts) in delivering sustainable services by extending and deepening asset management practices within their organizations. Since 2015, more than 300 grants and subsidies have been awarded to local governments throughout the province.

Input into RCMP policing assessment

Canada’s Minister of Public Safety, the Honourable Marco Mendicino, has been tasked, as part of his mandate letter, to "conduct an assessment of contract policing in consultation with provinces, territories, municipalities, Indigenous partners and stakeholders." UBCM will hold virtual meetings during the afternoon of March 30 for its members to provide input into this assessment.
