Check out the highlights of our recent environmental education learning experiences both in the field and at Rondout. Thanks to our partners from the Lake County Forest Preserve Education Team.
Grades K-2
Enjoyed the Animal Homes Program
at
Ryerson Woods Forest Preserve
Our K-2 cluster took a hands-on look at different animal homes and learned that, like people, animals use homes to provide shelter, safety and a good place to raise a family. Then it was into
the woods to search for burrows, nests, holes and more.
Birds of Prey
joined the 3-5 Cluster
for an In-School Program
Our 3-5 cluster students learned “whooooo” can see a mouse from a mile away and reach speeds of 200 mph. They also
discovered other “tools of the trade” of birds of prey. They got a close-up look at a resident bird of prey and learned their vital role in the food chain.
Grades 6-8 Engaged in A Pond Study
at
Daniel Wright Woods Forest Preserve
The Upper School budding scientists used nets to catch tadpoles, snails and dragonfly nymphs.and then worked with microscopes and identification keys to examine their catch. while observing the interactions among organisms. Students also used species diversity to assess the pond’s health. The students learned techniques that they will utilize in exploration of our own wetland in the Rondout Nature Preserve.
