From our Editor, David Advent:
For this month's newsletter, we have many exciting recaps and updates to share with you! Before our double-feature of the 2023 Undergraduate Research Symposium and Women's History Month, we start with a recap of our FSU cohort attending and presenting at the 2023 Florida Undergraduate Research Conference, held February 17th-18th at St. Thomas University in Miami Gardens, FL. This was an amazing opportunity for our students to present their dynamic research in a poster format to other Florida undergraduate researchers.
Then, we feature our 2023 Undergraduate Research Symposium. This is our annual showcase for all FSU undergraduate researchers to present work they have done throughout their career at FSU. We hope you will attend and join in the celebration of research on Thursday, April 6 in the Student Union Ballrooms!
We then pivot to highlighting how FSU, TCC, and the local Tallahassee community are celebrating Women's History Month this year. With Zoom panels, kickoff events, and library exhibits, there are a variety of ways to learn about the importance, impact, and legacy of women who have shaped history.
As always, we end with a few CRE updates, including our UROP application and info sessions, the first info session being held today, March 8th at 12:15pm both in HSF 3008 and over Zoom. These info sessions are an opportunity to learn more about UROP and how to apply to join the program. Be sure to register here if attending over Zoom!
Thanks for reading--as always, if you have any questions or would like to know more, please email us at cre@fsu.edu. Go forth, and research!

On February 17th-18th, 60+ FSU undergraduates (group photo above) presented at the Florida Undergraduate Research Conference (FURC), hosted by St. Thomas University. FURC is Florida's largest undergraduate research conference, and while at FURC, students had the opportunity to present their research, attend workshops, and meet graduate recruiters. Our students'
projects represented a diverse range of disciplines, from biology and marine science to literature and creative writing to public policy and economics.
We are so proud of our students--we know they did an amazing job presenting their research and representing FSU at FURC!

The Undergraduate Research Symposium (URS) is an annual showcase for undergraduate students from all majors to present their work to the wider community. This year, the URS will be held in person in the Student Union Ballrooms on April 6, 2023. Hundreds of student researchers, including those from the Garnet and Gold Scholar Society, Honors in the Major Program, the Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program (UROP), and independent studies, will present their work as poster and creative presentations.
11:00-12:00, Poster Session One
12:00-1:15, Lunch and Nourishing Creativity
1:30-2:30, Poster Session Two
2:45-3:45, Poster Session Three
4:00-5:00, Poster Session Four
Nourishing Creativity
The Undergraduate Research Symposium celebrates undergraduate research of all kinds from all disciplines. The Center for Undergraduate Research and Academic Engagement (CRE) strives to include the creative arts in programming and sharing events to broaden the research conversation. In contrast to the poster presentations at the Symposium, we are holding a luncheon called Nourishing Creativity, which will take place from 12:00 pm to 1:15 pm on Thursday, April 6th, 2023. A catered sandwich lunch will be provided and attendees are expected to stay throughout the opening remarks and all performances. Lunches are limited and must be requested through this RSVP by Monday, March 27th.
