REMEMBER: Preserves Rule Comments
Due this Week, March 10, 2023
Comments due this week on NPS Draft Hunting in the Preserves Regulation and EA

The 2023 Draft Regulation would restore limits to sport hunting and trapping established by NPS in 2015 and then taken away in 2020. DCC supported the original 2015 regulation which banned bear baiting, hunting wolves in the denning season, and other practices considered non-sporting. The Draft 2023 Regulation and EA exempt federally qualified subsistence hunters from these bans.

Environmental Assessment on Proposed Trails is out for comment
Since the fall of 2021, NPS Planners have been studying and conducting public scoping on prospective trails for the entrance area of Denali National Park, just north of McKinley Village. Visitation to the area is already high in the summer and is expected to increase with completion of a rest stop at Mile 231.

Recently, NPS Planners published a Draft Environmental Assessment proposing 17 miles of trails in this area and a bridge across Riley Creek to connect them with Entrance Area campgrounds and facilities.

DCC has made suggestions to NPS during scoping activities, and we are studying this newly published EA. We plan to attend the informational meetings above. If you are in the area, attending in person on Thursday is a great idea. Otherwise, we thank NPS for providing an online alternative on Friday.
