Book Talks (4th - 6th Grades)
|
Nora's birthday marks the one-year anniversary of the worst day of her life. To distract them both from the memories of the horrible shooting that killed Nora's mom, her dad surprises her with a trip to explore a slot canyon deep in the Arizona desert. Nora finds herself lost, alone, at the bottom of a canyon, in the middle of a desert. Separated from her supplies, she faces dehydration, venomous scorpions, deadly snakes, and worst of all, the Beast who has terrorized her dreams for the last year. To save herself and her father, Nora must conquer her fears--and outsmart the canyon's dangers.

Cozy up to a tale for every season in the cottagecore dreamscape occupied by a hardworking little witch and her community of woodland creatures. Oh, to be a frog relaxing on a leaf boat in a pond.

Esme lives with her grandparents in the topmost floor of the best apartment building. It’s her birthday and while her grandparents surprise her with a guitar, Esme wants a birthday party. But she won’t let this stop her from organizing a party for herself! It’s a good thing she has the best neighbors to help her. This is a quirky, fun early chapter book with bright illustrations for fans of Heidi Heckelbeck or Dory Fantasmagory.

Book 1: Wilderlore series
Barclay Thorne has never felt like he quite fit into his little village. When he's sent by his teacher to fetch mushrooms from the Wood, and accidentally runs into a magical beast that bonds with him, and a magical girl from the outside world, things take a turn for the worse. He's forced to run off into danger in order to fix things and get his life back to normal. But as he learns more about the world of the Lore Keepers that his village is so afraid of and magical creatures, he learns more about himself and the power that lies just within his grasp. An absolutely fantastical adventure that reminds me of Pokemon + Harry Potter, I raced through this first in a series and can't wait to get to the next one!
