In May, contractors will be demolishing and reconstructing the Lane Channel along southbound SR-55 between MacArthur Boulevard and Dyer Road. In preparation for this work, crews are currently excavating a strip of roadway adjacent to the Lane Channel and will also be placing piles for shoring.

Beginning the week of April 10, contractors are expected to place shoring beams along the west side of the Lane Channel. Crews will use a vibratory hammer to drive piles into the ground. Shoring refers to the process of supporting a structure during construction. This work will take approximately one month to complete and occur during weekdays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Contractors will continue to:

- Reconstruct the MacArthur Boulevard Bridge to accommodate the bridge widening. This work includes forming, striping, and pouring concrete at the columns.

- Construct retaining walls along both directions of SR-55. This work includes shoring, building forms, and performing concrete pours.

- Install or relocate drainage and electrical facilities during daytime and nighttime hours along both directions of SR-55.

OCTA, in cooperation with Caltrans, is improving 4 miles of SR-55 between I-405 and I-5. The project will improve traffic flow and reduce travel time by adding one regular lane and one carpool lane in each direction. Also, the project will add merge lanes between several interchanges and stripe carpool lanes for continuous access, augmenting safety on the freeway by making merging easier. These enhancements are expected to create a better, smoother driving experience for motorists.
