March, March by Annette Wynne

March, March, all the day,

Winds of March, please march away;

March away with noisy drum

For the flowers want to come;

March away through every street,

Noisy tramp of noisy feet,

Noisy music all the way—

March, March, March away!

March, March, never still,

March away from lane and hill,

March away from nook and glen,

April wants to come again;

March away with tramp and roar,

April waits outside the door;

Flowers and children want to play—March, March, March away!

In a 2016 study, for example, T. Christina Zhao and Patricia Kuhl demonstrated that babies exposed to simple melodies in a social setting developed a greater sensitivity to the rhythms of spoken language. More surprisingly, they noted, the processing of music was traced not just to the auditory cortex of the infants, but to the prefrontal cortex as well—the seat of higher-order cognitive faculties like attention and self-regulation [...]

The single best thing parents can do to make sure their kids are successful

If your kids aren't doing their chores today, don't be surprised if they have trouble collaborating with colleagues later in life.

That's the message from Julie Lythcott-Haims, former Dean of Freshmen at Stanford University and author of "How to Raise an Adult."

In a talk at Sunday's TED Talks Live event, Lythcott-Haims noted that the transformation from diligent kid to successful adult begins with chores.

Tuleyome Spring Thing & Nature Family Picnic Day

March 18

A decade ago, a local conservation organization, TULEYOME, envisioned a wildlife preserve on some land in Woodland that was slotted to become a strip mall. Working collaboratively with the City of Woodland and other organizations - this vision has become a reality, and the park preserve will open later this year.

A special pre-opening event will take place March 18th and it is also a Nature Family Picnic Day!  Free sign-up online at Tuleyome Spring Thing 2023.

Activities include: Nature walks, Face painting, Tracking/compass, Structure building, Nature's Theater walking plays and campfires with guitar playing and storytelling as well as many educational and informational booths and much more. It's a great day to get into nature, have a picnic, and to Support Tuleyome and the new Preserve. A Large Lake with an abundance of water fowl and other wildlife is the showcase of the preserve. Sign up and come join the beauty and the fun!
