Spotlight on CTE
This week Bellaire would like to highlight the work done by students in the Graphic Design and Multimedia Arts CTE pathway. Graphic design allows students to express their creativity through a variety of multimedia projects and teaches students how to communicate effectively with visual images.

Students interested in arts and audio/video technology should consider enrolling in the Graphic Design & Multimedia Arts pathway at Bellaire. There are two programs of study for students to pursue in this program of study. Pathway 1 offers Principles of A/V Technology and Communications, Graphic Design I, Graphic Design II, and Digital Arts and Animations. Pathway 2 courses of consist of Digital Media, Digital Design and Media Technology, Digital Art and Animation, and a Practicum of Entrepreneurship. Both pathways will also allow students the opportunity to become Adobe Certified Professionals in multiple Adobe programs.

Please check out some student work on Instagram @Bellairehsgraphicdesign.

For more information about the CTE programs, please contact Mr. Lloyd, Ms. Andrews, or your counselor.

Also, here is a link to a folder with animation project examples. These are all from Ms. Negri's Digital Media class. For the project, the students had to create a 30- to 60-second animated story with multiple settings and at least one sound effect. They also had to create at least one original character for the animation, though they could also use stock backgrounds and characters in addition to what they created. The students used Adobe Animate and Adobe Illustrator to create their stories.
Round 2 of the Senior Parking Lottery
The Senior Parking Lot Lottery will accept student entries until February 20th at 4:00 pm. Only students with a valid driver's license, proof of insurance, and access to a car they will drive to school may enter their name in the parking lot lottery. The fee for parking spaces is $75.
Only students that are classified as Seniors are eligible to enter the lottery. This means you must have earned 18 or more credits.
The week of February 20th, students will be notified of lottery results by email. (Results of the lottery will be shared via HISD student email addresses.) The spots are non-transferrable. You MAY NOT give or sell your spot to anyone. If you decline your spot, it will be given to someone on the waiting list.
Payment and contract instructions will be sent to students via their HISD email account. Students that are selected in the lottery will submit their $75 payment via School Pay and keep a copy of their receipt, a copy of their insurance, and driver's license to Ms. Frank in the Main Office.

Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month
February is Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month. Each February, young adults and educators work to raise awareness and focus on advocacy and education to stop dating abuse before it starts. This year’s theme for TDVAM is “Be About It”, where the focus is to amplify the voices of teens and young adults and promote positive and healthy relationships. Wondering how you can get involved?
  • Talk about the issue – discuss the warning signs of dating abuse and create a positive connection to the issue such as characteristics of healthy relationships
  • Become an ambassador – That’s Not Cool Ambassador Program is an opportunity for teens to raise awareness with friends, family, and the community through monthly challenges
  • Know how to get help – check out the list of resources available in Houston, connect to the National Dating Abuse Helpline, and talk to your counselor or trusted adult at Bellaire

Library Update
It has a busy week and full of exciting updates.
The library has officially gotten the rest of the library furniture! This means that the library has the space and availability to seat more students and serve more students. If you are interested in seeing the new library space please consider attending Coffee with the Principal or Cardinal Kickoff.

The Library has officially finished our genre update- when students come in to check out books and browse they will see that all of the genres are in the same places, but now there are colors associated with those genres. Typically people perceive color before they understand words and symbols; to create ease of access for students, we have genre labels including images and words located below each call number, and a colored overlay that you can see the genre labels through. This allows students to find their selections easier while also accommodating for those who may be color blind - as there are still symbols and words on the labels to show the genre.

Reminder for students- we will be hosting a 3D printing training 2/13-2/16 during lunch. Students will have to sign up in advanced to attend- the sign up links have been posted on Canvas in the announcements.
Last Friday,1/27, Ms. Carpenter found out some good news!! Our ESSER Funding title list has been accepted by Mackin, our library vendor, and they will be shipping new books to the library between 90-120 days! This will add nearly 5k books to our library! Currently we have 250 books in processing and another 80 books being reinforced according to the vendor. This makes Ms. Carpenter optimistic that there might be new books when we get back from Spring break!
If you, your teacher, or your club, would like to collaborate with Ms. Carpenter and the library please reach out to Ms. Carpenter via email, kaitlyn.carpenter@houstonisd.org
