Sea King Sunday Update

Dear Sea King Families,

Our first week of the second semester is in the books. It was great to welcome our students back to campus after the break and kick off the spring semester of the 2022-2023 school year. This week, our teachers were working to finalize first-semester grades. Families will be notified when the first-semester report cards are available on Aeries later this week.

During this second semester, if your student or family needs any type of support, please reach out to us so we can work together to provide assistance to your student. It is most beneficial to our students when we can work as a proactive, collective team.

I hope you are enjoying the 3-day weekend! We will see you on Tuesday.

Sincerely,

Dr. Trista Ramirez

Principal

We remind our Sea Kings that tomorrow is Martin Luther King Day. This day honors a man who dedicated his life to the ideals of freedom and justice which we hold in the highest regard throughout our nation. We ask all Sea Kings to enjoy their day off tomorrow while taking a moment to reflect on why we have a school holiday to celebrate this American hero.

Student Spotlight: Mia Dominguez

This summer PVHS Junior Mia Dominguez will be attending Fisher College in Boston, MA, in a summer program put on by The Concord Review, a global journal which profiles high school age students in the study of history. Mia was one of eighteen selected after a rigorous, national selection process with the goal to have a published paper in The Concord Review while still in high school. In addition, Mia is also being celebrated as one of seventeen California district winners in the Veteran of Foreign Wars (VFW) national Voice Of Democracy contest. Mia succeeded by writing and performing an essay she created about the value of America’s veterans and what they mean to our country’s freedom. At the end of the month Mia will travel to Sacramento to compete by performing against other state finalists, with the goal to win and represent California in the VFW’s national completion later this year.

Great job and good luck Mia!

2nd Semester Off-Campus Passes

Important Reminder for Parents: Only seniors are allowed to leave campus at lunch time. If your underclassman student does not have a class after lunch and you would like them to be able to leave campus during lunchtime, you must complete the following steps to apply for an off-campus pass.

Note: this is only required once per semester.

Step 1: Email Ms. Laird in the attendance office (LairdC@pvpusd.net) requesting a pass for your student. Please include your student's first and last name in the email, and which days(A Days or B Days) you are requesting a pass for. This email must be from a parent or guardian.

Step 2: Have your student stop by the attendance office to pick up his or her laminated off-campus pass.

  • Note: It takes about about a week for the pass to be made and laminated

Off-Campus pass applications are due by Friday, Feb 3rd.

Parking on Campus

From experience, we know it is always in the 2nd semester when finding a parking spot on campus becomes more difficult as many of our sophomore students turn 16, get their license, and begin to drive to school. In anticipation of this, please be reminded that any student parking on campus must have a valid student parking permit.

New drivers who wish to drive to school can apply for a student parking permit with this link. Parking permits are $20 and are valid for the entire school year.

Without a parking permit, students must carpool to school, park on the perimeter of the school, or park on Palos Verdes Drive West.

COVID-19 UPDATE

The Los Angeles Department of Public Health updated COVID-19 Protocol for TK-12 Schools with the RECOMMENDATION that all individuals wear well-fitting masks with good filtration when they are in indoor public settings. It is particularly important and strongly recommended for individuals who are at risk for severe disease to wear a highly protective mask in the following settings:

  1. closed spaces with poor air flow
  2. crowded places with many people nearby, and
  3. close contact settings especially where people are talking (or breathing heavily) close together.

PVPUSD Parent/Student/Employee LCAP Survey

We Want To Hear From You!

Annually, the District conducts a survey to gather information from a variety of educational partners regarding the PVPUSD learning environment that contributes to the production of high academic achievement levels for all students.

This LCAP survey is anonymous, and the collective results will be shared during Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP) meetings to guide local priority development, actions, expenditures, and services related to the conditions of learning, achievement outcomes, safety, and educational partner engagement. We value each respondent, and it is important that we get a representative sample from our community.

We have separated the surveys into categories which include Parent/Guardian, Employees (certificated and classified), Elementary Students (grades 3-5), and Secondary Students (grades 6-12). Please click on the link applicable to you to complete the survey(s) and/or to assist your student in completing the survey. Your responses will help guide the funding priorities for the Palos Verdes Peninsula School District. Surveys will close on January 23, 2023.
