I grew up around JAC while my mother served as JAC’s Executive Director. I thought I understood the importance of JAC and the work it does. But it wasn’t until I attended my first JAC Policy Conference in Washington, DC that I saw firsthand the power we have as JAC women.
I will never forget my first conference and that feeling of awe as I sat in the offices of Members of Congress for small intimate meetings. Over the course of the conference, I met more than 30 members of the U.S. Congress who were each interested in our concerns and opinions. They wanted to hear from JAC — and they listened.
Many conferences later I still get that same feeling of excitement and empowerment when I return to Washington with JAC. Each conference I have attended has had a profound impact on me and has further ignited my desire to keep working for change with JAC.
Some of my favorite conferences included sitting in then Sen. Hillary Clinton’s office with her, dinner at Sen. Barbara Boxer's home, briefings from Charlie Cook himself of the Cook Political Report and so many more. I can’t wait to make more special memories this year when I join up with JAC women from across the country on Tuesday, April 18 - Thursday, April 20 for the 2023 conference. The conference is also a great way to delve deeper into the issues we all care about. We hear directly from leading policy experts who are working daily to find ways to end gun violence, protect women’s choice, and stop antisemitism.
As a young mother, I worry about the world my children are growing up in. Will they be safe when they leave for school? Will there be clean water for them to drink? My children are counting on me to protect them and this country. With so many issues facing our country, I can’t stay home. Now is my time, and yours, to be in Washington and advocate for change.
Grab your sisters, friends, and daughters. Come to the conference. I promise you that it will be three days that will empower you — and what could be better than a girl’s trip with a purpose?
This week starts Women’s History month -- a time to celebrate all that women have achieved from the arts, to science, culture, politics, and much more. In keeping with that spirit, join me at the JAC conference, and together we can make our own women’s history.
