Killiney Beach Community Park is Open with limited capacity just in time for the May long weekend. The access road and parking area is open, up to the washrooms. The beach sites beyond the washrooms are open with access by foot/walk-in only. A newly defined swim area is marked by buoys and a swim grid - see video here . The dock and boat launch, due to structural damage will remain closed until repairs can be made or the infrastructure can be stabilized. The area around the dock and boat launch is closed. It is asked that park users ensure that access to the fire boat house, pump house and road is left open to ensure any emergency access is maintained.

Members of the NWCA met with Wayne Darlington, RDCO Manager of Park Planning & Capital Projects, on May 18th to obtain more info on the status of the flood recovery project and the opening of Killiney Beach Park. He has provided the following info for our residents:

Update May 18, 2018 - The Regional District has now received approval from the province (Disaster Financial Assistance Program) related to the Regional District’s flood recovery project, including Killiney Beach Community Park and Fintry Access #1 (Boat Launch). As a result, Regional District staff have hired an environmental consultant to complete environmental permitting requirements for flood recovery at Killiney and Fintry and have selected an engineering consultant to begin the flood recovery design work. Over the next couple of weeks park users and residents may see the consultants in and around the parks collecting information and surveying in order to accurately complete their work. Once the consultants have completed their work the Regional District will be issuing a tender to complete recovery works. Those works will include repairs to the dock, boat launch, access roads and parking areas. The timing of these works is dependent on the 2018 lake level situation and environmental work timing windows for works in relation to water, every effort is being made to complete the works as soon as practically possible and within the restrictions and regulations that need to be followed.

Water Quality Advisory for Killiney and Westshore Water Systems

  RDCO News Release

In consultation with Interior Health, the Regional District of Central Okanagan has issued a Water Quality Advisory for customers of the Killiney Beach and Westshore Estates water systems.

The advisory affects more than 280 properties serviced in the Killiney Beach subdivision and 265 properties in the Westshore Estates subdivision, both located off Westside Road.

Increased turbidity in each of the water system sources from high runoff has resulted in water quality that might impact children, the elderly or those with weakened immune systems. Roadside sign notices will be in place in each area advising of the water advisories.

Regional District staff recommends that as a precaution that Killiney Beach and Westshore Estates water customers follow Interior Health guidelines, especially for those with weakened immune systems, the elderly, children and those wishing additional precautions.  All water intended for drinking, washing fruit and vegetables, making beverages, ice or brushing teeth should be boiled for at least one minute or customers should use a safe alternative to water from the tap such as bottled or distilled water.

This precautionary water quality advisory will continue until turbidity returns to normal operating levels within acceptable Guidelines for Canadian Drinking Water Quality.

For information visit the Regional District website water system webpage ( regionaldistrict.com/water ) or contact RDCO Environmental Services at engineer@cord.bc.ca or 250-469-6241. To subscribe online for Regional District water quality advisories or alerts by email visit regionaldistrict.com/water .
