WINTER REMINDERS
-
Shovel your sidewalk. Saint Paul City Ordinance requires snow and ice to be removed from sidewalks within 24 hours. Corner property owners should shovel curbs, walkways and crosswalks to the street.
-
Do not push snow out into the streets.
-
Do not place recycling and garbage carts in the street. Carts should be kept in the boulevard or at the end of the driveway. (This is true even when there isn't a snow emergency)
-
If you are able, please shovel hydrants out and clear snow and ice off storm drains to prevent street flooding.

Join the D10 Como Community Council in 2023
The D10 Annual Election is coming up in April. Any community member in District 10, age 16 or older, is eligible to run. The board is made up of volunteers like you, elected by neighbors like you.
In 2021, the board made a change to designate board seats for renters, youth (16-24), and senior (62+). That change began to roll out in 2022 with a senior and renter seat (now filled), and continues with this April’s election with 1 renter seat and 1 youth seat on the ballot, in addition to seats for the 4 sub-districts and 3 at-large positions. If you fit these criteria, please consider running, we’re holding a seat for you! (Renters, youth, and seniors can hold other seats as well!)
All of our board and committee meetings are open to the public and agendas are posted in advance in this newsletter. We encourage you to come to some of our meetings and get to know us! To get on the ballot, submit a board member application.
The filing deadline is Sunday April 2. The election results are announced at the April board meeting. You can view some basic information about the election here. If you have any questions or would like to know more about being a board member you can reach out to D10 Como Park at district10@district10comopark.org.

Como History Tidbit
From Laura Oyen of the Como Neighborhood History Project
You never know what you can find in a backyard! Jean McRoberts was doing yard work last June at her house on Maywood Street and found a damaged marble that appeared to be very old. It was barely peeking out of the soil. It had chips, scratches, and was banded with shades of blue and white. Two weeks later, she dug up another marble while planting vegetables. This one was shiny with swirls of brown and cream. The previous homeowners said they had never found any marbles on the lot.
According to a local marble expert, the blue marble is a “patch” marble, possibly made by Vitro Agate, a division of JABO, which recently stopped making marbles. The brown marble is a swirl marble. Both are machine made some time over the past 70 years or more.
The kids who came to the Como Neighborhood History table at the Blizzard Breakfast were very excited to see the marbles. Many of the adults were equally interested in the artifacts! You never know what you might find in your backyard or what stories you may uncover when you dig!
