A Message From. Our Founder
Really, it’s August? Time to be thinking about “Back to school”, the approaching “Fall” events, getting my sweaters out (well perhaps it’s a bit early for that), and even Holidays! They are here! Seriously, when August comes, somehow my mind starts imagining what this year's FMAA Christmas card will look like! I start “seeing” gifts for people as I walk through stores, and I begin my stockpile. I have a shelf in my office at home that begins to fill up starting about this time of year, with gifts, etc for Christmas.
I have always done this! I already have 2-3 gifts on the shelf, and another 2022 Christmas list going.

The reality is that it is still summer, the holidays are several months away and it is HOT. I know I’m odd, but I do like the heat. Those of you that know me well, know that I love going to hot yoga. I go three times a week if I can! Just to give you an idea of how hot it can be in the room, I took a pic of the thermostat the other day. Yes, 110! This is for real!! This is really how hot it can get. And, it’s humid! I know, I know…but there is just something about it. Somehow in the heat, I can turn off my brain and forget about all my lists of so much to do, and just “be”. By the way, I’m not the only crazy one, there are MANY people that love the heat…
My cat Frigg, having some fun in the bathroom!
So, It makes sense that this month's business 'highlight' is Tower Yoga. It is right across from the Tower Academy. Everyone there is so nice. The owners, Jameson and Kellie have created such a cool community. All the teachers are amazing. The “vibe” is so loving and inviting. It is one of my very favorite spots. Next to FMAA, it’s one of THEE most awesome places in Tower.

Love you all,
Deb

Emily Kearns & Camile Gaston
❤️ Staff Highlight ❤️
Meet front office receptionist and Music Fun Time instructor, Emily Kearns! I first met Emily several years ago when I was the choir director at Bethel Lutheran Church. She sang in the choir and became one of my private voice students. People don’t know this but Emily has a lovely voice!

Emily was born in Fresno and recently graduated from Fresno State with her Theatre Degree in Acting. For the past two years that she's worked in the FMAA office she's also been a full-time student!

She earned her degree this past May in Theater Arts from Fresno State!
In addition to working in the front office, Emily has taught Music Fun Time since 2019 and now has more of an administrative role in that program. Before working at FMAA, Emily worked at Hi Top (the coffee shop next door) for several years, so she probably remembers you, and your drink order.

When she's not at the music school, Emily is probably in a play. This past year she has been in Barefoot in the Park at Good Company Players' 2nd Space Theater, as well as Guys and Dolls and Sister Act the Musical at Roger Rocka's Dinner Theater. She has been in 20+ shows in her lifetime!

Emily is an expert in episodes of "The Office", an animal lover, and she loves to write.  I often ask her to “write” up a draft of this or that for me. She is a GREAT help to me in that regard. She is just a joy to have around!

She is currently in GCP’s production of Sister Act, along with our newest staff member/voice teacher Camile Gaston, who has the leading role. You won’t want to miss this show!
The Importance Of A Music Mentor

Would you like to become a successful professional musician who works full-time in the music industry?
The truth is, starting a career in music and earning a good living doing it is a very attainable goal. However, many musicians make the mistake of trying to build a career in the music business with absolutely no strategy for success. As a result, it takes them much longer to accomplish what they want with music (if they ever do).

If you would like to start a career in music and quickly reach success as a professional musician, it is crucial to find a mentor who has already achieved great things in the music business. By learning about the music industry from a professional who has already done big things, you will be much more likely to succeed in your own music career.

1. They have the ability to pay attention to the small details of your music career while helping you to stay on track toward your larger, long-term goals.

In order to maintain success throughout your music career, you will need to keep your biggest goals in mind with each action you take. For most musicians, it is easy for them to become distracted in their music careers and lose direction. This often leads them down a long and frustrating path as they seem to be ‘doing things' in their music career, but in fact, are not working toward what it is that they truly want to achieve. Additionally, the majority of musicians do not understand how to pursue their music career goals in a highly focused manner by using an effective strategy. These musicians generally see limited to no success and as a result, are forced to work outside of the music business.

When looking for your mentor, you must make sure that this person understands how to build highly effective strategies to help you achieve your music career goals as quickly as possible. With that in mind, it is possible that even with the right strategy in place, you may still become distracted, confused or uncertain throughout the course of your music career. A good mentor will instantly notice subtle signs that you are going down the wrong path, and will quickly step in to help you find your way again.

2. They already were/are successful in the music business, and they're able to help you solve any problems that get in the way of your music career goals.

Starting a career in music is often a very frustrating experience for most musicians. Although there is a great deal of information about the music business online; most of it is intended for use by the general music community. As a result, you may have specific questions about your own challenges in your music career, but no specific answers to help you deal with them. On top of that, the music industry information you find online does not help you understand the difference between ‘useful’ information and information that either no longer applies to most musicians or does not apply to you in your own music career. This is why it is absolutely essential that you find a mentor who understands the inner workings of the music industry and has already built a successful career by figuring these things out.

Don’t make the mistake of trying to figure everything out on your own in the music business. This is the same thing that so many musicians do, and this is why most musicians DO NOT make it to successful music careers. Regardless of your current experience in the music industry, I encourage you to seek out your own music career mentor as soon as possible so you can quickly begin reaching your full potential for success in your music career.
