Neighborhood Updates

Indian Trail Library Bird Garden & Pollinator Meadow Opening Celebration

Join Mayor Lisa Brown at the dedication ceremony on Saturday, Sept. 21, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. There will be tree giveaways, nature hunts (perfect activity for all ages), a compost demonstration, and an opportunity for children to write their wishes and dreams on biodegradable paper and hang them on trees. For the last year and a half, Library staff member and horticulturist Juan Moses has been transforming the Indian Trail Library lawn into a shared space for birds, bees, butterflies, and the NEIGHBORHOOD! This garden and meadow will not only provide food, respite, and shelter for our winged friends but also a place of play and enjoyment for our community. The garden is stocked with native berry-bearing trees and a pollinator meadow that showcases being good environmental stewards through sustainable practices while creating beauty and helping our wildlife.

  • Paint stepping stones for the Garden on Saturday, Sept. 7, at 1 p.m.

Asphalt Art

All neighborhood councils are encouraged to apply for an asphalt art traffic calming project to paint an intersection on a residential street. This pilot program ends in 2025 and the application process includes selecting and having the intersection approved, selecting an artist, and approving the design. The actual painting of the street process takes several months. So, if your neighborhood could benefit from this program, apply here. Want to see the completed projects? Find them at Joseph Ave. and Cook St. in Hillyard, 25th Ave. and Monroe St. by the Scoop in Manito-Cannon Hill, and Third Ave. and Elm St. in Browne’s Addition.
