Dear Families of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic School,

Greetings from Washington, D.C.! It’s been a busy and exhausting week exploring the nation’s capital with the Class of 2023! 

This past week, I spoke to the students about this month’s character trait focus: Perseverance. When we think about Perseverance in children’s books, what always comes to mind first for me is The Little Engine That Could. It just seemed that there was no way that Little Engine could make it up the hill, but his repetitive self-talk of “I think I can, I think I can”, helped him beat the odds and reach the summit. Perseverance is the ability to keep doing something in spite of obstacles. I told the students that I witness their perseverance when they keep editing draft after draft of an English essay until it’s just right and when they continue to put forth max effort in class even when the work is harder for them. I reminded them that they show perseverance when they keep practicing their sport or musical instrument when the task at hand seems impossible. I shared with them that I love reviewing report cards and seeing their perseverance and hard work pay off. 

We also see Perseverance in the Bible. I think of Noah… What perseverance he had all those days in the Ark with those animals. Or Job who remained steadfast in his faith despite many trials and hardships. Or the Apostles and many Saints who persevered in their love of Christ and spreading the Good News even when it meant risking their lives. This month, and every month, I pray our students --- and families --- use all the talents God has given to persevere and do their best in their faith life, academics and friendships. 

And we have persevered and made it to the end of Quarter 3! I pray you all have a wonderful and restful Spring Break. See you back on campus on Tuesday, March 21st!

Help St. Anthony of Padua Catholic School finish paving our playground area, and build a legacy! All proceeds will benefit the St. Anthony of Padua Catholic School Endowment. 1st Grade (from Friday 3/3/23) – one case of strep throat

5th Grade – one case of strep throat

2nd Grade – one reported case of lice

Kindergarten – one reported case of conjunctivitis (pink eye)

We still have a touch of the stomach virus around. No cases isolated to a specific grade level. Wishing everyone a happy, healthy and relaxing spring break!
