March 2023

Dear Springwood International Parents,

Greetings from Seoul, South Korea. Over the past 12 days, I have visited Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, and Danang in Vietnam and finally Seoul. I have met prospective Springwood students at student fairs and agent offices. Along the way, I was able to see a few of our current student's parents and even a former student who graduated from Springwood last year and is attending the University of Utah's campus in South Korea!

Unfortunately, I missed being at Springwood for Interim days and Prom last week. I know that you will enjoy reading about these below. Interim trips and Prom provide great experiences and many memories for the students to look back on when their time at Springwood is over.

As the school year winds down, your students are busy with sports, school work and their friends, which is exactly what we hope for!

Kindest regards,

Ann Hixon

"The Best Night Ever": Prom 2023

Springwood students went back in time to the roaring 1920's and enjoyed a Great Gatsby themed prom. Students laughed, ate, took tons of pictures, and danced until their feet hurt. Congratulations to Grace Kim from South Korea on being named Prom Queen for the class of 2023!

Interim Week

Interim Week is a unique experience at Springwood School. For three days, the students take their learning outside of the classroom and into the real world. This year, the Freshmen visited several regional historical sites such as former President Roosevelt's "Little White House" in Georgia. The Sophomores toured two different Universities and went zip lining on the world's longest zip line. The Juniors had two different learning experiences: some Juniors toured various Civil War battle sites in Virginia and Pennsylvania with Springwood History teacher Mr. Murphy Wood, while others toured three local historical museums. The Seniors got to experience a few days in their ideal career as they shadowed in different fields such as technology, finance, athletics, and marketing.

Congratulations to the Springwood Math Team

After winning first place in the region tournament, the Springwood Math Team competed in the state competition and placed 4th out of 76 teams. The Math Team has one final competition in April to finish out a great year!

That's a Wrap on Winter Sports

The 2022-2023 Basketball season has come to a close. Both the Varsity boys and girls teams made it through the region tournament with the Varsity boys making it to the Final Four. We are proud of the work our teams put in this year and for their successful seasons!

Springwood Soccer Kicks Off

Soccer has kicked off at Springwood! This year, there are 24 international students playing on the Varsity boys, JV boys, and Varsity girls teams. So far, the Varsity boys team has a perfect record, winning every match of the season. The Varsity girls team and JV boys team have both won their first games, showing significant improvement from last season.

Springwood Swings into Baseball

Baseball is a very traditionally American sport, so we are thrilled to have some Springwood International students on the Varsity and JV Baseball teams this year. Some students have played Baseball for most of their lives and some students are just learning the game. Whatever their skill level, the boys are having a good time!

Game, Set, Match!

The Springwood girls' Tennis team started its season at the end of February and is greatly improving! The girls play in both singles and doubles matches and are learning new techniques with each match they play. The Springwood Tennis team is made up of girls from the United States, Vietnam, Ukraine, and Thailand.
