Kappa Sigma Parents' Weekend 2024

UT Kappa Sigs gathered for a festive weekend on November 8 and 9 that included a Jimmy Buffett-themed Parents' Night Dinner, a Tau Man of the Year celebration to honor Danny Grant '79, and a Game Day Tailgate Brunch. The good times continued as our mighty Longhorns defeated the Florida Gators with a final score of 49 to 17.

Parrot Head Paradise at the Kappa Sig Lodge

Parents' Night was a full-on Parrot Head Paradise, celebrating the late, great singer-songwriter Jimmy Buffett -- who was also a Kappa Sig. Chapter awards were presented and the 2024 Pledge Class was introduced. Texas Tide provided live music, guests took their best shot at the mechanical surfboard, and the silent auction offered a variety of special items to bid on. It was a colorful, fun-filled evening for Kappa Sig parents, actives and pledges.

Chapter awards were presented to outstanding leaders by Matthew Ziemnicki '08, Alumni Advisor; Billy Thackston '21, outgoing Grand Treasurer; Ryan Jinnette '21, outgoing Grand Master; and Bill Zwiener '73, outgoing Tau Trustee Committee Chairman. Award winners will be profiled in the December edition of Tau eNEWS.

Danny Grant '79 Awarded Tau Chapter's

Highest Honor

The Tau Chapter honored Danny Grant as Kappa Sigma Tau Man of the Year on November 8. Danny is the President and Chief Operating Officer of H.D. Grant Company in Houston. He is also a civic leader, church leader, and philanthropist in the Houston-Galveston area.

After serving several terms as President, Danny now serves as Tau Trustee Committee Chairman. He served as Tau Legacy 2015 Campaign Chairman to raise funds to build Warren Residence Hall and has substantially contributed to its funding. The Tau Chapter honored him with the Frank Erwin Award in 2021 for outstanding support and leadership. 

Danny was celebrated as 2024 Tau Man at Warren Wildlife Gallery on Friday evening, November 8. He was toasted by several of his Tau brothers, who spoke of their endearing friendship, respect, and admiration for him. 

Danny and his wife, Suzanne (who was a Kappa Sig lil' sis), have been married 41 years. They have three grown children, three grandchildren, and another grandchild due in January 2025. All three children and Suzanne work at H.D. Grant Co. with Danny.
