Judge Rejects Request for Resentencing of Man Involved in Murder of LASD Deputy
August 31: PPOA Board Member/IRC Captain Roel Garcia attended the hearing of Justin Flint (convicted for his role in the murder of Deputy Maria Rosa in 2006), who requested to be resentenced under a new California law known as SB 1437. If Flint (who, at the time of his arrest, was described by police as a 19-year-old meth addict) had been resentenced, he would have been immediately eligible to be released from prison. Fortunately, Long Beach Superior Court Judge Daniel J. Lowenthal refused his request, instead finding that Flint knew Deputy Rosa was a peace officer when he participated in a robbery that ended in her death.
