Rising Tides Newsletter - February 2023
As we wrap up the month devoted to love, we wanted to share the stories you loved the most on our social media over the past year.
Pump up your iron with Tim Conway
Conway’s long-time collaborator recently invited him to join her in writing an invited review about iron in the Annual Review of Marine Science. We sat down with him to get more of a helicopter view of the bigger-picture questions.
Help us solve the mystery!
This object has been in the Dean’s conference room for a long time. But what is this object, and where did it come from?

CMS alumni and shipwreck expert David Mearns hypothesized that it appears to be the top of an amphora, a type of ancient Greco-Roman jug, and thus could be as old as 2,200 years. He also noted the marine encrustation certainly indicates the object was submerged in relatively shallow water for a long time so that should help in assessing age and where it came from. St. Pete Science Festival: what a blast
Great job, CMS! Two videos here for your viewing pleasure – the first showing what a (blue) blast Dean Frazer had (!), and the second a compilation of some of the CMS action.
