Bright Light Projects Celebrates International Day of the Girl Child: Empowering Girls for a Brighter Future

Welcome to Bright Light Projects month of October 2024 newsletter,

Bright Light Projects Cameroon (BLPC) is dedicated to empowering girls and young women worldwide. This year, it joined the global community in commemorating the International Day of the Girl Child. This year's theme, "Girls' Rights: A Future Without Fear," aims to recognize the challenges girls face worldwide and highlight the importance of their rights and empowerment.

In Cameroon, Bright Light Projects organized a roundtable discussion with girls in Bamenda to empower young participants to understand their potential and advocate for their rights. These sessions fostered critical thinking, leadership skills, and confidence, encouraging girls to become agents of change in their communities.

The event also featured a presentation recognizing girls' achievements in various fields, highlighting their accomplishments and inspiring others. The program was marked by the sharing of sanitary pads with beneficiaries to foster their training and promote menstrual hygiene.

Shing Praise Wandia, the program manager for Bright Light Projects, emphasized the importance of empowering young girls through skill-based training to achieve gender equality and sustainable community development worldwide. This requires a joint effort of individuals, institutions, and states.

In recognition of the International Day of the Girl Child, Bright Light Projects Sierra Leone (BLPSL) organized a special event at the Rogbaneh Municipal Senior Secondary School for Girls to sensitize students about the importance of girls' rights and empowerment.

During the morning assembly, BLP representatives delivered inspiring messages about the significance of the day and the challenges faced by girls in Sierra Leone. Theresa Mboma Kargbo, a senior community outreach officer, highlighted the newly passed law against early marriage, emphasizing the government's commitment to protecting girls' rights.

Mohamed Conteh, another organization representative, shared the background of the International Day of the Girl Child and emphasized BLP's dedication to ensuring the well-being and future of girls. He stressed the importance of equality and non-discrimination.

Samuel Alpha Thoronka, the coordinator of BLP Sierra Leone, encouraged the girls to focus on their education and avoid early marriage. He urged them to remain students and carry bags to school, not babies.

The event included an open discussion, during which the girls had the opportunity to ask questions and share their thoughts.

This celebration reinforced the belief that every girl deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive, free from discrimination and early marriage. Bright Light Projects Sierra Leone continues to stand with our nation's girls, supporting their future, empowering their voices, and ensuring that they are valued for who they are, now and always.

Bright Light Projects is committed to continuing its efforts to empower girls and young women in all its operating countries. By investing in their education, skills, and well-being, we can unlock their potential and create a brighter future for them, their families, and their communities.
