Find Community, Connection, and Movement

This Week at the NECC

We want to pause and recognize that the election has many in our community feeling stressed and anxious. As you go through the rest of the week, we encourage you to prioritize your wellness by stepping away from screens and finding a way to move your body. Go for a walk out in the sunshine, stretch your muscles, relax in our saunas, or join your neighbors in one of our fitness classes.

We’re here for you and for each other. We look forward to seeing you soon.

Hollywood Fall Foliage Contest

Snap photos of the beautiful fall foliage around the Hollywood neighborhood for a chance to be featured in our newsletter and on social media.

Bonus points for shots outside our center—and extra if you’re with friends or family!

To enter, tag us on Instagram or Facebook, or email our Communications Coordinator at crischiotto@necommunitycenter.org. Don't forget to follow us to see if your photo gets featured!

Bill's Story: How Your Donations Create a Ripple Effect of Joy

Bill Lawrence remembers the first time walking around in NECC's pool. It was the first time in eight years that he felt weightless and unconfined by gravity. Discovering the Open Swim time was a revelation—a weekly opportunity where Bill could move freely, supported by warm water and with his loving partner Cynthia by his side.

On that first day in the pool, Cynthia couldn't help but notice Bill's grateful smile. "He didn't stop smiling the whole time he was in the pool," she says. It was a smile that spoke volumes—a testament to Bill's newfound freedom and joy in the water.

This year, we’re aiming to raise $25,000 to continue providing programs, places, and well-being for all. Join us in making an impact—your support matters!

Community Agreements Highlight: Learn

Our final focus in the Community Agreements rollout is Learn. Learning isn’t just about acquiring new skills; it’s about being open to different perspectives, growing from feedback, and recognizing when we’ve made mistakes.

Examples of Learn in action include, but are not limited to:

  • Being open to new experiences, ideas and perspectives
  • Listening to others when they express that they’ve been harmed
  • Allowing yourself to fail and try again
  • Reflecting on the feedback we receive from instructors

Learning is lifelong. How will you approach learning with openness and curiosity this week?
