It's Happening! Citizens Partnership for Clean Canals

On September 19, two local nonprofit groups, TEAM Punta Gorda and Heal Our Harbor presented the “Citizens Partnership for Clean Canals” to the Punta Gorda City Council. The purpose of this project is to gather and analyze data about the degree and nature of impairment in the canal system of Punta Gorda, and to develop community solutions to address any issues. Despite the challenges of our recent back- to-back hurricanes, plans are moving forward in November thanks to grants from the Punta Gorda Rotary and the Marine Advisory Committee of Charlotte County.

PGIB Downton planter

Lend a Hand Planting the Punta Gorda Downtown in November

Punta Gorda in Bloom volunteers maintain 3 fountains and 60 additional planters that suffered salt incursion during the hurricanes. The soil must be replaced. The planters need to be cleaned. New flowers are safely housed in Naples. They need to be planted. This is a November project that needs more volunteers. Help make Punta Gorda blossom again. Contact PGIB Co-Chair Richard Polk or TEAM'S Volunteer Coordinator to participate. RichardPolk@comcast.net or volteampg@gmail.com, respectively.

More Volunteer Opportunities to Help Our Community

Punta Gorda has suffered record flooding caused by two back-to-back hurricanes. City staff continue to assess the damage to all public properties, which we now know was catastrophic. TEAM Punta Gorda is proud to partner with the city on many projects and our volunteers will be working closely with city staff to help Punta Gorda recover from the effects of these two weather events.

This presents many opportunities for your talents and whatever time you might have after dealing with your immediate cleanup needs.
