Mojave River

For most of its 100-mile course from the San Bernardino Mountains to Soda Lake in the middle of the Mojave Desert the Mojave River is mostly hidden underground, suddenly appearing out of nowhere after a mountain rain when the bedrock forces the abundance of water to the surface.

Diamond Valley Lake

Diamond Valley Lake is one of the largest reservoirs in Southern California and one of the newest. Filling began in 1999 by way of the Colorado River Aqueduct and was completed in 2003. The reservoir was created with the construction of three earth fill dams and was one of the largest earthworks projects in the US. Excavation resulted in many paleontological finds that are on display at the Western Science Center at the lake's East end.
