Sea Pines Drive Infrastructure Improvement Project Update

Phase 3 of the Sea Pines Drive infrastructure repair project is underway with a completion time of Spring 2023.


  • Work will be performed Monday - Friday from 7 am - 6 pm. Traffic control will be present in the work zone, as needed.
  • Please observe and obey all traffic management personnel, signage, and devices.


Stormwater Drainage Work in Proximity to Lighthouse Road and North Sea Pines Drive in Progress

  • Project work in this area is projected to take 1-2 more weeks, weather permitting.
  • Leisure trails in the project area will be closed and a detour will be in place through next week.
  • Single-lane road closures and flagging operations are in place.
  • Motorists should expect traffic delays. Please use caution while driving in this area.


Stormwater Drainage Work Along North Sea Pines Drive in Proximity to Woodbine Road in Progress


  • Project work in this area will take 1-2 more weeks to complete, weather permitting.
  • Cyclists and pedestrians are advised to avoid the project area as leisure trails will be closed for construction.
  • Single-lane road closures and flagging operations are in place.
  • Motorists should expect traffic delays. Please use caution while driving in this area.


Leisure Trail Construction and Enhancements

Leisure trail construction from Lighthouse Road to Greenwood Drive/Sea Pines Drive Intersection and from Greenwood Drive to Baynard Cove Road

are in progress.

 

  • Project work will continue over the next 3-5 weeks, weather permitting.
  • Cyclists and pedestrians are advised to avoid the project area (please reference maps below) when possible.
  • For safety, cyclists will be required to dismount and walk bikes around the active work zones.

South Sea Pines Drive Leisure Trail Timber Bridge Replacement Project

The existing leisure trail pedestrian bridge located along South Sea Pines Drive in proximity to Beach Marker #24 (located between Black Skimmer Lane and Royal Tern Road ) has exceeded its useful life and must be replaced.


Sea Pines CSA contractors are scheduled to begin demolition and reconstruction work the week of February 20th, weather permitting.


Project work will take approximately 4-6 weeks, weather permitting. During this time, pedestrians and cyclists will need to use the leisure trail detour as the bridge will not be available for use. Click here to view the detour map.

Tree Work


  • Tree work along Sea Pines Drive from Greenwood Lane to Baynard Cove Road is in progress.
  • Single lane closures and flagging operations will be in place. Please use caution while driving in this area


What's Next:


Major roadwork along Sea Pines Drive from Lighthouse Road to Baynard Cove Road.


  • Roadway widening, construction, and milling operations scheduled to begin the week of March 6th.
  • Project work will take 3-4 weeks to complete, weather permitting.
  • Single-lane road closures and flagging operations will be in place.
  • Motorists should expect traffic delays.


How to stay updated regarding this project:


Sea Pines CSA Boardwalk #46 Remains Closed for Reconstruction


Replacement and construction work on Boardwalk #46 is in progress. The boardwalk will also be extended by approximately 100 feet over the dune to aid in the protection and allow the dune to continue to build.


Work will take approximately 1 more week, weather permitting. This beach boardwalk access will be closed to all pedestrian traffic during this time. Please use Beachwalks #45 or #47 as alternate routes to the beach.

Sea Pines CSA Gate Pass Office Seasonal Hours to End 3/1/2023

 

Beginning Wednesday, March 1, 2023, the Sea Pines CSA Gate Pass Office, located at 32 Greenwood Drive will begin operating at normal business hours:

 

  • Open Daily from 7:00 AM - 11:00 PM

Sea Pines CSA Annual Assessment Information

 

The 2023 Sea Pines Annual Assessment Invoices were sent out Thursday, December 15, 2022, to the primary email address on record with Sea Pines CSA and mailed to those property owners who do not have a primary email address on file. The due date for payment of this assessment is April 1, 2023. To pay your assessment online click here.


As a reminder, the 2022 Annual Critical Infrastructure Funding Assessment Bill was due Monday, December 12th. Click here for more information.

Stormwater Maintenance

 

Drainage pipe cleaning along the side streets of South Sea Pines Drive from Belted Kingfisher to Gadwall Road will begin next week, weather permitting.

Stormwater Repair


Ditch cleanout between 36 and 40 Old Military Road will continue through next week, weather permitting.

Roadway Asphalt Repairs

 

Asphalt repairs along Governors Road and Club Course Drive will begin next week, weather permitting.

Tree Care Management Program



Next week Sea Pines CSA's tree contractor will begin trimming trees over the following roadways:


  • North and South Live Oak Road
  • Willow Oak Road
  • Red Maple Road
  • Tupelo Road


Beachwalk Tree Trimming


  • Annual tree trimming along Sea Pines CSA-managed Beachwalks will begin the week of February 27th and will continue through the spring.
  •  Beachwalks will remain open, but we ask that pedestrians use extreme caution and pay attention to flagmen on-site.

Land Use Rules and Regulations Reminders


  • Please remember to submit an ARB application to obtain the necessary approval for any/all exterior projects or repairs. If you have any questions or concerns regarding a project, please contact the Sea Pines ARB by phone at 843.671.5533 or email at kenr@csaseapines.com


  • Ground cover (mulch, pine straw) shall be applied periodically to maintain a neat, clean appearance. Ground (dirt, sand) shall not be left exposed without landscaping or ground cover.

The Sea Pines Shell Ring Educational Materials

The Sea Pines Forest Preserve Foundation is happy to announce that through a grant from the Town of Hilton Head Island Accommodations Tax (ATAX) program, updated educational panels have been installed at the Sea Pines Shell Ring.Each panel contains historical and educational information along with a QR code to view a video for more information.


Most of what we know about the Sea Pines Shell Ring comes from research conducted by Binghamton University (New York) between 20015-2019.


The Sea Pines Shell Ring was first established 4,800 years ago and is listed on the National Register of Historical Places. It is 1 of approximately 50 currently known to exist and is one of the best preserved. Click here to learn more and view the digital panels.

South Island Public Service District Potable Drinking Water Pipeline Upgrade Project


SIPSD, the utility company providing water and wastewater services in Sea Pines, has begun their major infrastructure upgrade and replacement project to their potable water drinking line from Dunnagans Alley to Baynard Park Road, inside of Sea Pines. 


SIPSD has provided the following project update:


  • Boring and trenching are in progress in proximity to Lawton Canal. A new pipeline will be installed from the Heritage Farms area through the SPCSA Admin Building parking lot along the easement near Lake Forest in order to connect to services located at Lot 4 (Governors Road and Greenwood Drive). 
  • Plantation Drive, from Baynard Park Road to Lighthouse Road, Repaving Schedule:
  • Asphalt milling operations were completed this week.
  • SIPSD is onsite today,Thursday, February 16th to conduct roadway paving which will continue into mid-next week, weather permitting. Temporary line striping will follow.
  • Single-lane traffic closures are planned. Traffic delays are expected.
  • Please use caution while driving in this area and observe and obey all traffic management personnel, signage, detours, and devices.


Sea Pines CSA will make leisure trail improvements on Plantation Drive from Baynard Park Road to Lighthouse Road later this fall. Click here to learn more about the project.

The Artists of Sea Pines Open House


The Artists of Sea Pines in collaboration with the Hilton Head Plantation Artists Association will host an open house of our combined works Thursday, February 23rd from 5:00pm to 7:00pm. 


The event is free at the Sea Pines CSA Community Center, 71 Lighthouse Road.
