The American Association of University Women at UH Mānoa (AAUW at UHM) is and will continue to be active for the 2022-23 academic school year.

The mission of our Registered Independent Organization (RIO) is to promote the values of AAUW on the UHM campus and in the community; we are working towards equity in society by providing the tools necessary for women to gain economic security, pursue their education, and advocate for women's rights.

AAUW at UHM's internship program, consisting of eight students from the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa, is housed in the Office of Civic and Community Engagement, under the supervision of Director Atina Pascua, and sponsored by the AAUW Honolulu Branch.

To become a member, please email aauw.uhmanoa@gmail.com expressing your interest. We will ask follow up questions at that time. In order to have an active-status in our RIO, we ask that you attend at least one event every semester. We have no membership fees. Our RIO is open to everyone!

Women's History Month

Women's History Months is celebrated from March 1st to March 31st

During this month, we take time to educate ourselves and reflect on womanhood in our country. History has shown us the suppression and belittlement of what it's like to be a woman in this world, but it is essential to recognize how far we’ve come to combat this inequality. In the late 1900s, acknowledging women’s history only lasted for a week, but congress was pushed to celebrate this time for a whole month. Women's history must be taught not only for a month but all days of the year.

This year's National Women’s History Alliance’s theme is saluting women who tell our stories. The premise is by educating through generational testimonies and based off of how we’ve evolved to defy the odds of society’s gender roles.

AAUW's mission is to create opportunities for career advancements and promote women in higher education.

International Women's Day

On March 8th, 2023 we will be celebrating International Women's Day! We take this day to applaud women's achievements throughout history and raise awareness for equality issues still being faced. Prince Kūhiō Day

This state holiday is observed on March 26, 2023

Notable among the Islands of Hawai’i, Prince Jonah Kūhiō Kalaniana'ole is commemorated on March 26th for his efforts to protect the Hawaiian people. He is best known for advocating for the Hawaiian Homes Act which designated approximately 200,000 acres of land for the native Hawaiians who were fighting deadly diseases and pushed out of their homes in the early 1900s.

Meet Jason Kaholokula Nichols, our newest AAUW intern from Kapi'olani Community College!

Aloha! My name is Jason Nichols and I am a first year student at Kapi’olani Community

College. I am studying nursing in hopes to be a nurse anesthetist one day. This is my first semester as an AAUW intern and I am looking forward to make changes. I hope to be able to promote change in my community by showing our university people and surrounding community the opportunities available to them, to build a better Hawaii. Outside of school I work alongside nonprofit - LACA, and coach tennis and basketball, to further make an impact on our people across the Island in a variety of ways.

We will be at campus center almost every week!

Stop by our table at the UHM campus center (by Starbucks) to meet some of our interns and hear about our team's current affairs, and let us know about what programming you would like to see us put on. To make it easy, here is a calendar to keep track of all the times we're on campus.
