December holidays: trash and recycling reminders

Here's a reminder that there are no trash and recycling pickup holidays this month, as the Christmas and New Year holidays fall on weekends this year.

To help clear the streets of holiday packaging, there will be an additional week of recycling.

Regardless of your regular recycling schedule, please set out your recycling the week of December 26-30. Note that Styrofoam, ribbon and many giftwraps that contain foil are not recyclable through our curbside single-stream program.

Your regular recycling schedule resumes in the new year!

Don't trash that tree!

Holiday Tree Recycling Dropoff Jan. 7

If you have a fresh-cut tree, you can bring it to us for recycling. The City of Cedar Park Parks and Recreation Department invites you to bring your Christmas tree for recycling. Tree mulch will be used for city landscaping. This event is free to the public:

If you are not able to drop off your tree, you may contact Boy Scout Troop 233 to schedule a pick up. Click here for details.

Holiday Public Safety Reminders

Reminder: Hide, Lock, Take

You're probably used to seeing these signs in our parks and shopping centers throughout town. Heed their warnings.

The Cedar Park Police Department put them in places you can't miss, as a reminder to hide your valuables, lock your vehicle (or sleigh!) and take your keys.

Remember: Hide, Lock, Take!

Don’t make it easy for criminals to steal your belongings - and your holiday spirit!

Stop the Pop! Fireworks illegal in Cedar Park

Fireworks stands open December 20, but before you light the fuse and blast your budget, know that it is illegal to possess or use fireworks in the City of Cedar Park, and within 5,000 ft. (just under a mile) of the City limits without a special permit. The Cedar Park Fire Department serves several areas of Travis and Williamson Counties that aren't part of the City. Cedar Park has a zero tolerance policy, meaning officers must issue citations to violators. The fine adds up to $189 (including court costs).

Seasonal fire safety tips

From lights, to trees, to cooking and heating, here are some timely reminders from the Cedar Park Fire Department:

  • Don't overload sockets or string too many sets of lights together
  • Make sure power cords are in good condition
  • Turn off your tree lights at night
  • If you have a real holiday tree, keep it watered
  • Use caution while cooking - do not leave food in oven or on stove unattended, and be careful of loose sleeves on clothing while cooking
  • Never use a BBQ pit or outdoor gas grill in the house
  • Be careful with space heaters - do not leave them unattended and make sure there are no flammable objects nearby
