A Message from our Founder & Presidents
Dear Friends of Adopt a Golden Atlanta,
As we embrace the sunny (and humid) days of August, we are filled with gratitude for our incredible volunteers and the support from our community. Your dedication and commitment continue to inspire us every day.
Our volunteers are the heart and soul of AGA. From fostering dogs in need, to organizing events, to assisting with daily operations, each of you plays a vital role in our mission. Your selfless efforts and boundless compassion ensure that every Golden Retriever that comes into our care is met with love and the promise of a brighter future. Thank you for your hard work, your passion, and your unwavering belief in our cause.
We are also moved by the generosity of our community. Your support, whether through donations, attending events, or spreading the word about our mission, has been instrumental in allowing us to continue our work. It’s truly heartwarming to see so many people come together to make a difference in the lives of these wonderful dogs.
|
This month, we are focusing on a crucial aspect of our mission – our Medical Fund. Many of the Golden Retrievers we rescue come to us with significant medical needs. From surgeries and treatments to regular check-ups and medications, these medical expenses add up quickly. Our current goal is to raise $50,000 to ensure that every dog receives the care they need to thrive.
Thanks to your support, we have recently welcomed several new Golden Retrievers into our care, many of whom require immediate medical attention. With your continued generosity, we can provide these dogs with the medical care they need and the loving homes they deserve.
Every donation, no matter the size, brings us one step closer to our goal. Please consider contributing to our Medical Fund and help us give these Golden Retrievers a second chance at life.
Together, we are making a remarkable impact. Your kindness, dedication, and support are the driving force behind our success. Let’s continue to work together, to spread love and hope, and to change the lives of these beautiful dogs, one rescue at a time.
With heartfelt thanks,
Patti & Lauren

Urgent: Double Your Impact and Save Golden Retrievers in Need!
We are thrilled to announce an incredible opportunity to make a real difference for dogs like Guinevere through our matching fund program, in honor of Patricia whose love of all dogs ran very deep.
Guinevere came to us blind, deaf, and nearly fur-less, yet her spirit remained unbroken. Guin is just one example of the many dogs under our care with traumatic stories, needing urgent care to survive.
Others in need like Fernando, who as just a pup, was thrown from a car and diagnosed with Parvo as a puppy, needing urgent care to survive. Or Little Bit who battles significant health challenges with courage, and now needs ongoing support to thrive.
|
Thanks to a generous donor, every dollar you contribute to the Adopt a Golden Atlanta Medical Fund will be matched, up to $25,000. This means we have the potential to raise a total of $50,000!
Your donation will support life-saving surgeries, ongoing medical treatments, and preventive care for these beloved rescues. Help us double the impact by donating now, spreading the word, and getting involved in fundraising or fostering. Together, we can provide the care and love these golden retrievers deserve. 10 DIY Summer Treats for Your Dog | We’ve rounded up ten of the best dog-friendly homemade treats for your pooch – why not give one of these tasty dog treat recipes a try? Not only do these treats take mere minutes to make, they’re healthy and will set your pooch’s tongue lolling and tail wagging!
Chicken Stock and Parsley Freezies
These icy, meat-flavoured treats are perfect to cool a warm pooch. They’re a fabulous low-calorie option if you’re watching your dog’s weight as they’re low in fat and sugar. With a bunch of parsley thrown in for good measure, they’ll also keep your pup’s breath nice and fresh.
Ingredients:
- 1 reduced-salt chicken stock cube
- 450ml of water
- A small handful of parsley
Directions:
- Dissolve the stock cube thoroughly in water and set aside.
- Chop your parsley finely and stir into the chicken stock.
- Pour the mixture into ice cube trays and pop them in the freezer.
- Serve on their own or add one to your dog’s water bowl to add flavour. If you’re concerned that your dog doesn’t drink enough on warm days, the meaty flavours may encourage them to rehydrate.

Orphan of
the Month:
Heaven
| |
Life has not been easy for me so far. I have reached my senior years struggling for food, a comfortable place to sleep and for my health. Now I am around 8-10 years old and I need help. I can’t do this alone. I have many things the doctor is helping me with and I’m grateful to the shelter that took me in, for AGA saying ” yes” to taking on my care and, hopefully, to a future loving family that will take care of me. My doctor says I have heartworms.
|
|
I suppose that should not surprise me considering the life I have have led. It costs a lot of money for the shots I need, which is $1,000. If there are any dog angels out there that can help with a donation; it doesn’t matter if it’s not all of the money because a team of angels could each put a little together and it would add up!
| |
Right now, I also have to be treated for some other medical needs l have.
Love you so much, Heaven

Check Your Dog
Once a Month on the 14th!
| |
It is important that you start your fight against canine cancer and any other health issue from the day you bring your dog home.
Facts about Cancer in Dogs
Did you know that 1 in 3 dogs will be diagnosed with cancer? 50% of those dogs will die from cancer. In humans, there are 1.5 million new cases of cancer each year, but in dogs, there are 6 million new cases of cancer diagnosed each year. Dog cancer prevention is key to a long healthy life with your dog.
| |
Checking your dog once a month for lumps and bumps or any abnormal behavior is key in the prevention of any health issue with your dog.
We recommend doing it on the 14th of every month. Monthly checks mean extra pets and love for your dogs while bringing peace of mind to you! If you are starting with a young dog, this time will also prepare them for their future vet wellness visits.
| |
Now how exactly do you do this?
Start at their nose and work all the way to their tail. Make sure you are in a familiar, low-key environment where you and your pet can do this without distraction. In other words, not during dinner time or when you expect the mailman to be buzzing by the house.

We all love spending the long, sunny days of summer outdoors with our furry companions, but it’s important to remember that summer comes with its hazards.
To make sure you’re prepared for whatever comes your way this summer, check out this list of summer safety tips from our experts at the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center (APCC).
- Visit the vet for an early-summer checkup. Make sure your pets get tested for heartworm if they aren’t on year-round preventative medication.
- Give pets plenty of fresh, clean water when it’s hot or humid outdoors as pets can get dehydrated quickly. Make sure your pets have a shady place to get out of the sun, be careful not to over-exercise them and keep them indoors when it’s extremely hot.
- Know the symptoms of overheating in pets, which include excessive panting or difficulty breathing, increased heart and respiratory rate, drooling, mild weakness, stupor or even collapse. Symptoms can also include seizures, bloody diarrhea and vomit along with an elevated body temperature of over 104 degrees.
- Never leave your animals alone in a parked vehicle. Not only can it lead to fatal heat stroke, but it’s illegal in several states!
-
Do not leave pets unsupervised around a pool. If you plan on spending time near a pool, lake or beach with your pet, make sure you give them fresh water and avoid letting them drink from the pool, or ingest ocean or lake water. When swimming, introduce your pets to water gradually and make sure they wear flotation devices when on boats. Rinse your dog off after swimming to remove chlorine or salt from their fur.
