Students from Solana Vista, Skyline, Earl Warren and The Changers proudly attended the City Council meeting last Wednesday to accept the City’s proclamation honoring Red Ribbon Week, which ran this week from October 28th through November 1st. Red Ribbon Week is the nation’s oldest and largest drug prevention campaign, promoting the importance of a drug-free life for K-12 students. We encourage the community to support these efforts in building a healthy, drug-free community for future generations.

Temporary Closure of La Colonia Basketball Court
|
The La Colonia Basketball Court will be closed for resurfacing from Monday, November 4th, to Monday, November 18th. Repairs will include filling chipped areas and applying fresh colored layers to restore the surface. The color scheme will remain the same, but the court will feel like new when finished. Please respect the closure signs and avoid using the court until it reopens as use during the closure could damage the new surface. In the meantime, the Fletcher Cove Park Basketball Court will be open. We appreciate your patience and look forward to shooting some hoops on the new court soon!
SANDAG Answers Rail Realignment Questions
|
Last week, SANDAG issued a notice announcing updates to the LOSSAN Rail Realignment project website, which now answers key questions from the nearly 1,500 public comments received during the recent scoping period. As the project progresses, new information will be added and more questions will be answered. The notice also highlighted that a value analysis study is underway, with representatives from local cities and agencies collaborating to explore potential improvements. A comprehensive study on 16 different alternatives will be released early in 2025, and will inform the SANDAG Board of Directors and the public on the project alternatives to move forward for further study. The City will continue to update the public on this important project as information becomes available.
Two Ways to Report Non-Emergency Concerns
to the San Diego Sheriff's Office
| |
|
Did you know that for non-emergency concerns—such as noise complaints or suspicious activity— you can call the San Diego Sheriff’s non-emergency number (858-565-5200), or if they are experiencing a high call volume, you can use the City’s online portal: Report a Non-Emergency Concern. This easy-to-use feature is conveniently available on the homepage of the City of Solana Beach website as one of the featured buttons and sends your message and any attached images directly to the Sheriff’s staff on duty in Solana Beach. If you See Something, Say Something! Reporting these concerns play a vital role in keeping our community feeling safe!

World Kindness Day Celebration!
Wednesday, November 13th from 2-5 PM
| |
|
Join us for a fun and uplifting celebration of World Kindness Day on Wednesday, November 13th, from 2:00-5:00 PM at Fletcher Cove Park! This special event will feature a variety of kindness activities, including crafting stations for painting kindness rocks, making friendship bracelets, and writing thank-you notes. We’ve partnered with the San Diego Blood Bank, who will be on-site from 11:30 AM to 5:00 PM, and Solana Beach Backpacks for Kids, who will be collecting food donations throughout the event. There will also be live music, lawn games, and refreshments to keep the celebration lively and enjoyable for all ages! Come help us create a ripple effect of kindness, where each act—like a pebble creating waves in a pond—touches lives, inspires others to be kind, and makes a positive impact in our community.
Solana Beach Fire Department Open House Recap
This year’s Solana Beach Fire Department Open House was a huge success! It was wonderful to see so many residents and their families enjoying the day with us. Visitors explored the fire station through guided tours, where our firefighters shared insights into life and work at the station. Kids loved getting a close-up look at the fire trucks, and our auto extrication demonstration attracted a big crowd. With live music, delicious food, and fun activities like face painting, there was something for everyone. It was a fantastic day of community, fire safety education, and family fun. We can’t wait to see you all again next year!
Sheriff's Spanish Academy Graduation Recap
Last Wednesday, the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office celebrated the graduation of 53 participants from their first Spanish Academy in Solana Beach. This was one of the highest attended Academies thus far for this program. The Academy provided our bilingual residents with valuable knowledge on public safety topics like what to do during traffic stops, home and personal safety tips, common scams and prevention, drug and fentanyl awareness, and Sheriff community resources. This 6-week long program, concluded in a graduation ceremony for all participants who attended the weekly meetings. This event was attended by Sheriff Kelly Martinez and members of her staff countywide and those who work here in Solana Beach. The highlight of the evening was a community-led potluck with tamales and pozole, and an exciting landing of the ASTREA helicopter at La Colonia Park, drawing a crowd and making for a spectacular ending to the celebration. The City looks forward to partnering again with the Sheriff’s Office in the future for another Spanish Academy for our residents to continue to grow our partnership with law enforcement and create more community leaders in our neighborhoods
