Supporting Children And Women

In Kenya East Africa.

From the Founder

What a wonderful January 2023 we’ve had through Dorcas Destiny International! I had the opportunity to have a pleasure trip to Kenya and celebrate the traditional wedding festivities of our Teddy Odhiambo and Evah Tietie.

Teddy is the artist who introduced us to the Botanical Microenterprise Project and also works with Inez on arts and crafts for the children. He has been a tremendous blessing to us, to me, and to the children.

His beautiful wife Evah, who joined us a few months after Teddy did, has faithfully been our tailor for the children’s uniforms, taught our girls sewing, and also provides support at Victory School in Baba Dogo.

Between Teddy and Evah, at least one or both of them join us in the village to provide support to our on-site teams when we are in Kenya. Evah has also introduced us to her niece, Sharon who became part of our team in July 2022. Both families are very precious people! What a joy to meet them all and experience a traditional Kenyan wedding!!

Another highlight of my January 2023 trip was the site visit I made to Mully Children’s Family. My vision for Dorcas Destiny International has been greatly expanded by seeing what Dr. Mulli has been able to accomplish, in the name of the LORD Jesus Christ! If you want to see his story, you can find the movie on YouTube. We have been attempting to visit Mully since 2019, and it was FINALLY time! An AMAZING campus!!!!

That same visit also produced our first paid employee, Leonard Odeyo. We met Leo back in January 2019 on an overnight visit to Kisumu. He’s been a member of the Dorcas Destiny International family since then, and has joined us on multiple visits to the village. Additionally, Leo was instrumental in working toward our Mully site visit. He has proven his dedication to us repeatedly over the years, and I am pleased that he will be assisting me with the newsletter, coordinating our social media campaigns and helping me with some items related to the website.

I am pleased to announce that we have nearly 20 health care professionals who’ve signed up for our June 2023 Medical Missions Trip! Dr.Bri the O.T. has done an amazing job in recruiting team members and coordinating details. It will be an epic time in Nairobi!!

I so look forward to keeping you posted on all of our progress and the many wonderful ways all of our donors help and support the work.

Our next trip is mid-February 2023; look for an update! It’ll be a good one!

With much love, and many blessings!!

Muli children's family visit Trip Jan 2023 -- by Leonard Odeyo

I visited Muli children’s home mainly to learn about climate change mitigation and adaptation. In addition, the visit was projected towards seeing its operations, and learning how to create, design and launch sustainability programs using farming and agriculture on small scale.

Agriculture and forestry are highly vulnerable to climate change impacts. They are subject to slow-onset stressors like drought, soil salinization and biodiversity loss. Envisioning how to integrate environmental conservation initiatives to child welfare programmes, which is a strategy to facilitate environmental transformation and create safety nets for vulnerable children and child survival at the institutional and community level.

The goal is to plant and distribute many trees in our project sites, the surrounding communities and institutions in addition, to promote the conservation of Indigenous trees and vegetation in their natural habitats.

Climate change is one of the most serious threats to sustainable development globally. Studies have shown that 90% of all-natural disasters afflicting the world are related to severe weather and extreme climate change events.

The aim is to create resilient and sustainable agriculture and food systems in low-income communities, in times of crisis and beyond. In future the projection is to provide communities, agribusinesses, and smallholder farmers with financial and technical resources to design and implement projects across the food value chain, from 'farm to table'.

As the world faces multiple and overlapping stresses and shocks – pushing millions of people, including smallholder farmers, deeper into hunger and food insecurity, the VISION mandate is now more relevant than ever.

Ready to join us in February? If you have your passport, come on!
