Trunk-or-Treat Postponed to 2025
I do not like to cancel events, so instead of canceling Trunk-or-Treat, I am postponing it to October 2025. This will give us time to properly plan and implement a well-run and thought-out Halloween experience. It also gives us time to think of a more sensible name. Kids aren’t trunking people if they don’t receive treats. The solution may be as simple as calling it Trunk-AND-Treat, or Treats from Trunks. We’ll be workshopping the title between now and the rollout next September. Your submissions are welcome, though become the intellectual property of St. Francis forever thereafter.

ECW Meeting: Sunday, Oct. 27.
The ECW ( Episcopal Church Women) will meet on October 27, 11:30 am, in the boardroom.
Thanks to the hard work of many in the parish, we were able to make over $32,000 during the Antiques show and sale. Our job now is to discuss how to use these funds.
Get a goodie from the coffee hour table and join us. This is also a good opportunity to learn more about the ECW.

Parish-wide Small Groups Recap
Fr. Jason and the Vestry thank the parish for participating in the Small Group Meetings held over the summer and want to share the most common responses we received during the sessions. As you read, you’ll see there is a collective theme shared here at St. Francis.
Fellowship, music, and attending church were the top responses for what we “really love to do”, and being a welcoming community that enjoys working and serving together was how “God gifted us” to do those things. Building more connections between parishioners, bringing more people to the church to do God’s work, connecting more outside our community, and building a Youth Program were the principal replies for where we should “focus”. How we can “boost our ability to achieve those things” included hiring more staff to assist our rector, adding a Youth Leader, having a joint service with Wayfarers as well as visiting other churches to inspire ideas for us here.
Though these were the most popular replies, Fr. Jason and the Vestry shared all the responses so each of your voices was heard and understood. During this season of stewardship, you will see several of your ideas incorporated into our short-term and long-term planning for our parish.
Please let a Vestry member know if you have any questions or want more information.

We are a small group of St Francis people who meet on the first Wednesday of each month. Our goal is to share our spirituality with a simple dinner while chatting and catching up with each other. If someone has a special concern, this is a good time to raise it for prayer. At the end of the meal we break bread, sip wine, and say a Eucharistic prayer. In short, we distribute and receive “communion” as it was done in ancient times. From there, we gather in another room to share our thoughts about a book the group has chosen, a video we watch together, or another exercise we all agree on. In this discussion, everyone can take part because we have created a safe space to share and listen to each other.
Our next meeting will be held on Wednesday, November 6 at 6pm in our church library.
If interested, please contact Sue Egan via text at 310-293-1431 or email me at susanegan065@gmail.com. Other contacts are Gayle Taylor and Blair Hinz.

Spiritual Formation:
Who is Jesus? | |
Each Sunday, Dec. 1 to Mar. 30 at 9:10 AM | St. Francis Library
Have you ever wondered about Jesus? Are you questioning and inquiring, curious, or perhaps, doubtful of Jesus and what he is saying? Ever wonder what Jesus may really be saying to us? Where did Jesus come from?
Inquirers, seekers, those wondering about baptism or confirmation, and those seeking a deeper connection to something beyond ourselves: all are invited to conversations about Jesus on Sundays between services in the St. Francis Library.
Conversations will be based on our Sunday readings and we will meet Sundays at 9:10-ish to 9:45am. We will begin on the first Sunday of Advent and continue through the Sunday before Holy Week.
Please contact me, Deacon Celeste, at 310-913-1069 or email at cstump@thecanterbury.org. to RSVP or to answer any questions. I look for to speaking and meeting with you.
Peace,
Deacon Celeste
