Patricia Hiserote, DO, named new Kaiser PIC

Patricia Hiserote, DO, is the new Physician-in-Chief at the Kaiser Permanente Santa Rosa Medical Center. She will lead and oversee the physicians and clinical care delivery operations that serve patients and members in the Santa Rosa service area. Dr. Hiserote, an adult and family medicine physician, joined Kaiser Permanente in 2012 to help develop and accredit the Kaiser Permanente Santa Rosa Family Medicine Residency program and has been serving as its Program Director since 2016. While in this role, she has received Kaiser Permanente recognitions and community awards including the 2022 Permanente Medical Group Cecil Cutting Award, the 2022 Sidney Garfield Award, and the 2022 Outstanding Contribution to the Sonoma-Mendocino-Lake Medical Association. Dr. Hiserote, a longtime SMLMA member, continues to serve SMLMA as an active board member and immediate past president. She served as president of the Medical Association from fall 2021 through 2022, overseeing the merger of SCMA and MLCMS. Public service student loan forgiveness program extended

The California Medical Association has won a significant victory in expanding the Federal Public Service Student Loan Forgiveness Program for California physicians who were previously blocked from participating in the program. The new program started July 1, 2023, and provides loan forgiveness for physicians who work in nonprofit hospitals, foundations, clinics, or other healthcare entities 30 hours/week for approximately 10 years. Timely record documentation can help avoid lawsuits | |
One cautionary tale of failing to comply with timely documentation involves a physician who received an after-hours call from a patient complaining of a severe headache. The physician instructed the patient to go to the emergency room (ER) for an evaluation. The patient responded, "Okay," but never went to the ER as instructed and had a massive cerebrovascular accident (CVA) later that night.
