August 2023: Looking Forward to Sculpture Walk
Sculpture Walk is Coming

Art is all over Everett on August 19th and 20th. Visit the Arboretum for Sculpture Walk on August 19th and 20th to see smaller works by members of the Northwest Stone Sculptors Association on display in the gardens. Sculptors will be there to talk about their pieces (and sell them, too) and to demonstrate handcarving techniques.

Fresh Paint will be downtown this same weekend, making it easy to double your viewing enjoyment. Check out the Schack's website for details.
Soapstone Carving Class:
Are you between the ages of 9 and 99?

We have a class for you! Learn how to carve a soapstone animal with safe and simple hand tools. There are two opportunities on Saturday, August 19th-- one at 10 a.m., the other at 1 p.m. Just pick the one that fits your schedule.

The class costs $30 and includes all materials. Dress for the weather and expect to get a bit dusty. Go home with a cute animal you carved all by yourself.
Summer Fest Family Fun Photo Gallery

The weather was perfect on July 22nd for Summer Fest. Faces (and arms) were painted, birdhouses were made and decorated, pastels were created, unusual bugs were admired, families posed for photo ops, lawn games were played, and the list goes on.

Thanks so much to all our community partners who helped make this a memorable, fun, and even educational opportunity for children and their families.
It's fun to have your face painted to look like a dog.
Thanks to the YMCA's crack team of face & arm painters.
Arboretum board member Tom Easley created 3 photo boards.

Imagine Children's Museum's Little Scientists Return to the Gardens in August

We're delighted to host another Imagine Children's Museum summer camp for preschoolers this month. Little Scientists is full, so it's too late to register (sorry!), but we're delighted to continue this partnership with Everett's own Imagine Children's Museum. The day camp introduces children to both the science and the beauty of nature in the Arboretum. We can't think of a better place for them to learn to appreciate both.
Fibonacci Fans Rejoice!

Fibonacci was looking its best, with a shiny new coat of paint and water spilling around its fins (for lack of a better word), just in time for Summer Fest. Young pastel artists enjoyed working in the shade of the maples with water splashing around them.

Thanks to Tyler Chism at the City of Everett for getting his work restoring our beloved fountain to its former glory.
Progress in the Backyard Garden: The patio takes shape
As you probably know by now, we're renovating the Backyard Garden. We were so excited on July 26th to watch the Edge Concrete team begin work on the patio and benches. Their work continues into the first week of August--adding color to the patio surface, finishing the exposed edges to look like a flared tree stump, and shaping the benches.

If you're interested, visit the Arboretum this week and watch their work progress.
What's Going on at the Arboretum:
You never know what you might see when you visit
The Arboretum has been the backdrop for many photos over the years. This family gets an A for their matching floral outfits.
A plein air painting class led by Charlene Collins Freeman visited the Arboretum during Summer Fest. It was a busy afternoon in the gardens.
I heard a racket in the palm tree and finally figured out it was a squirrel pulling bark from the tree. I drew a white circle around her (him?).
