Call to Artists for Symphony & Art in the Park

2024 Placer Artists Tour artists are invited to join us for the Art display at Symphony & Art in the Park on Saturday, September 14, 2024.

Through our special partnership with the Auburn Symphony, this exciting opportunity introduces your work to attendees of the symphony's first concert of their 2024-2025 season.

The art was very well-received last year, and several sales were made as a result of the show.

We plan to display approximately 18-25 pieces of 2D and 3D art on Propanels and pedestals set up on the sidewalk leading to the concert lawn seating.

Larger pieces of 2D art are preferred, with a maximum width of 24” and maximum height of 48”. We can also accommodate about half a dozen pieces of 3D art on pedestals and larger freestanding pieces. No jewelry or small pieces will be accepted.

The Call to Artists will close August 19 at 5 pm or when the application limit has been met. Acceptance notifications will be sent by August 27, and will include instructions for drop off and pick up.

Artists whose work is accepted are asked to attend the event during the art display portion from 5:00-7:00pm. The Symphony concert is from 7 - 8 pm, and we will have some seating areas set aside for participating artists.

Ten locations will each be granted $50 to cover the cost of materials for a hands-on project for Tour attendees. Application closes August 15, 2024 or when the application limit has been met. Acceptance letters and checks will be available on September 22.

Live Cave Painting

The piece that Chuck created for our Natural Wonders show entitled “Placer County/Chauvet Homage -1” Came from the idea of the lion panel of Chauvet cave in France dating back 30,000 years ago. The panel consists of a dozen lions in a pack hunting ice Age Bison. We had American lions hunting right here in Placer County that were 25% larger than today’s African Lions 11,000 years ago. But saber tooth cats are more iconic to North America.

All of the colors of this piece are hand-ground pigments and the binder is hand gathered (dug) soaproot bulb glue, cooked and strained. The negative hand prints were created with a soaproot binder mixture blown through a hollow section of wild growing Arundo donax giant grass I gathered and dried.
